Your role:
CBC Calgary is looking for an energetic forward-thinking and creative Associate Producer - to join our team working on our flagship morning radio program The Calgary Eyeopener.
Youre someone with an abundance of original ideas and story pitches that reflect your desire to go beyond the regular news agenda and the standard buzz on social media. You understand Calgary and look for ways to reflect this city back to our listeners and surprise them with stories they havent heard.
You have serious journalistic chops; you are a tenacious creative chaser and a fast worker. You will be part of a small tight-knit team so strong multitasking and self-management skills are essential.
You may also be asked to gather and edit audio and video tape that you can contribute to the Eyeopener and to our other platforms.
You understand the diverse and changing population of Calgary and Southern Alberta and the importance of reflecting all our communities in our content. Representing and understanding diverse communities is a priority for CBC.
Work must comply with CBC/Radio-Canada journalistic and program policies standards and practices. There may be opportunities to coordinate the work of others and close cooperation with the program unit is essential.
Key tasks:
Assist in developing program content including chasing pre-interviewing writing researching and/or editing.
Organize the participation of interviewees creative contributors and other participants; develop background introduction and line of questioning; conduct or arrange for any necessary research; and ensure the briefing of hosts.
Maintain contact files.
Provide support for on-air personalities.
Participate in the evaluation of all aspects of the production.
Edit and mix audio
Coordinate with our visuals team to ensure content from the Calgary Eyeopener can also be shared with them
Qualifications
We are looking for a candidate with the following:
University degree or equivalent.
A minimum of four years related experience.
Demonstrated ability to work within a team.
Strong writing and editorial abilities.
Excellent critical thinking skills including knowledge of and familiarity with CBC Journalistic Standards and Practices as well as the legal and ethical issues related to journalism.
A strong proven connection to the communities we serve in Calgary and Southern Alberta and a deep and nuanced understanding and appreciation of diverse perspectives.
Exceptionally strong research and organizational skills.
Extensive general knowledge.
Extensive knowledge of Calgary and Southern Alberta.
Strong on-air presence.
Strong and enthusiastic team player.
Curious quick thinking incisive and critical thinker.
Innovative with programming ideas.
Experience using social media to research develop and source stories.
Passionate about both stories and issues.
Demonstrated attention to accuracy under time constraints required.
