General Job Description:
The Library Educational Assitant/Family Event Coordinator supports early literacy and a love of reading by providing library instruction for kindergarten and PreK- students and aliging lessons with classroom learning. The position also coordinates family engagement events and provides clerical support for NM PreK program requirements including tracking professional development and parent involvement hours. This role helps create a welcoming family-centered school culture that connects literacy curriculum and community.
Qualifications:
- Must hold a Level 3 Educational Assistant License.
- Must complete 24 hours of professional development annually.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience working with early childhood or primary-aged students preferred.
- Strong interest in literacy childrens literature and family engagement.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills with children staff and families.
- Basic computer and office skills; ability to maintain accurate records and logs.
- Ability to work collaboratively manage time and adapt to a flexible daily schedule.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Library Instruction and Coordination
- Conduct library specials for kindergarten classes once a week in the morning including read-alouds literacy activities and basic library skills.
- Provide PreK library sessions once a week in the afternoon with developmentally appropriate stories songs and early literacy experiences.
- Coordinate regularly with NM PreK and kindergarten staff to align library lessons with classroom themes units and standards.
- Maintain an organized inviting library space and support appropriate book selection for young children.
- Assist with circulation shelving inventory andcare of library materials.
Family Event Coordinator/SecretaryEssential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan organize and support family engagement events (literacy nights parent activities celebrations) in collaboration with school and NM PreK staff.
- Prepare and distribute flyers invitiations reminders and follow-up communication for family events (bilingual as needed).
- Track and document family participation and parent involvement hours for NM Pre-K reporting.
- Maintain calendars sign-in sheets and files related to family events and activities.
NM PreK Office Support:
- NM PreK office duties related to documentation and compliance.
- Track staff professional development hours and maintain records of certificates for NM PreK personnel.
- Help monitor and document parent involvement hours and activities in accordance with NM PreK requirements.
- Provide general clerical support (filing copying data entry organizing records) as assigned by the principal or NM PreK coordinator.
Physical Requirements:
Sitting standing lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds) reaching squatting kneeling and moving light furniture may be required. Outdoor playground and bus or car supervision duties may be required.
Equipment/Material Handled:
Must know how to properly operate or be willing to learn to operate all multimedia equipment including current technology.
Work Environment:
Duties are performed in the school library classrooms and main office. Some flexible hours may be required for evening or special family events.
Terms of Employment:
7.5 hours per day;
