Job Description/Overview:
Under the direction of the Student Services department and school nursing:
Perform health screenings including vision and scoliosis
Coordinate referrals to private healthcare providers
Serve as liaisons between school personnel family and community healthcare providers to ensure a healthy school environment
Work with school teams to develop health care plans for student care based on assessment interventions and identification of outcomes and the evaluation of care
Serve as consultants with other school professionals such as food service personnel physical education teachers coaches mental health specialists and counselors
Provide health-related education to students and staff in both individual and group settings including maturation sexually transmitted infections handwashing dental health and other health related topics in the classroom
Monitor immunizations manage communicable diseases and assess the school environment as needed to prevent injury and ensure safety
Oversee infection control measures in coordination with the local health department
Actively participate in school safety plans that address school violence bullying and emergencies that may occur at school
Oversee medication administration health care procedures and the development of emergency action plans
Make decisions related to the delegation of healthcare tasks as directed by state laws and professional practice guidance
Provide health advice to school educational teams such as the Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) team Child Study Teams etc
Assist families with locating outside care and obtaining health insurance
Provide training to school staff members in CPR/First Aid/ AED and health promotion practices.
Maintain flexibility such as changes in staff or individual student programs
Attend required district meetings and events
Drive to school sites in districts
Regular attendance is critical
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications andEducation Requirements:
BSN or Bachelor degree in a health-related field
Current Utah RN license
At least one year of nursing experience
Valid Drivers License
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Requires the mobility to reach and bend (neck and back)
Requires mobility of arms to reach and dexterity of hands to grasp and manipulate small objects
Requires mobility to maneuver through classroom and school environments independently
Requires lifting and carrying of objects of up to 50 pounds which may be a rare aspect of the job
Requires pushing or pulling objects weighing up to 100 pounds which may be a rare aspect of the job
May require working with bio-hazards (bloodborne pathogens human waste cleaning/disinfecting materials etc.)
Requires independent transportation throughout the Weber School District geographical area
