We are currently seeking a qualified and enthusiastic individual to assume the position of Heavy Duty Mechanic with the Public Works Department.
Reporting to the Superintendent Roads and Sidewalks and under the direct supervision of the Fleet Supervisor the Heavy Duty Mechanic is responsible for the preventive maintenance and repairs for the Citys heavy truck stationary engine and equipment addition the Heavy Duty Mechanic may be required to service and repair small gasoline and diesel equipment.
The work requires a Journeyman Heavy Duty Technician Certificate as well as a minimum of five years work experience in the trade. A valid NWT Class 5 drivers license is required.
The training and ability to use oxy-acetylene and arc welding equipment (including MIG welders) is required. This position requires participation in an on-call rotation.. There will also be the requirement of being on an on-call rotation. The work requires an understanding of the principles of component and electrical systems that apply to gasoline and diesel engines. Maintenance and repair handbooks are not always available so independent judgment is required when diagnosing faults carrying out repairs and interpreting instructions. The ability to read and comprehend manufacturers parts and service manuals and diagnostic equipment is required in order to perform repairs and order proper replacement parts.
The City of Yellowknife offers a salary of $106176.80 per annum plus benefits as outlined in the Public Service Alliance of Canada Collective Agreement.
