Job Description:
Role Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Mainframe Developer with deep expertise in COBOL CICS DB2 and JCL to support and enhance mission-critical applications. The candidate will play a key role in development maintenance production support and modernization initiatives in a high-volume enterprise environment.
Key Responsibilities
Design develop test and maintain mainframe applications using COBOL CICS DB2 and JCL
Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical specifications
Perform impact analysis and support system enhancements and upgrades
Develop and optimize DB2 SQL queries stored procedures and performance tuning
Handle production support incident resolution and root cause analysis
Work on batch and online (CICS) processing systems
Prepare functional and technical design documents
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including QA business analysts and infrastructure teams
Participate in code reviews testing (unit integration UAT) and deployment activities
Ensure adherence to coding standards security policies and SLA commitments
Required Technical Skills
Strong hands-on experience in:
COBOL (Structured & Object-Oriented)
CICS (Customer Information Control System)
DB2 (SQL Stored Procedures Performance Tuning)
JCL (Job Control Language)
Experience with:
VSAM IMS (optional but preferred)
Mainframe utilities (SORT IDCAMS IEBGENER)
Debugging tools like Expeditor Abend-AID
Knowledge of:
Batch processing and scheduling tools (e.g. Control-M CA-7)
Version control tools (Endevor Changeman)
Familiarity with mainframe modernization or API integration is a plus
Soft Skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication and stakeholder management
Ability to work in a fast-paced production support environment
Team player with mentoring capabilities
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Computer Science Information Technology or related field
Experience in banking financial services or insurance domains
Exposure to Agile/Scrum methodologies
Experience in modernization initiatives (Mainframe to distributed/cloud)
Nice to Have
Knowledge of REST APIs Microservices integration with mainframe
Experience with DevOps tools and CI/CD pipelines for mainframe
Exposure to tools like z/OS Connect IBM MQ
