Reports To: Assistant Superintendent for Human Services | Location:DISTRICT WIDE |
Compensation:Commensurate with salary range on the DCPS Salary Schedule for class code 7320/7317 Hours Per Day: 7.0 hours per day Contracted Days: 181 days |
QUALIFICATIONS |
Required: - High School Diploma or G.E.D & pass state approved test OR
- Associates Degree OR
- Minimum of 48 college credit hours
Preferred:
- 3 years of classroom experience as an instructional assistant or other school support
- Current enrollment in or be eligible for Option 9 or Option 6 initial Teacher Certification program
- Availability to work extended days with additional pay as needed for training
Knowledge Of: - Basic computer skills including use of mouse and keyboard to navigate computer e-mail and websites
- Classroom management techniques
- Documentation and record-keeping techniques
- Communication skills
- Policies and objectives of assigned program and activities

JOB DESCRIPTION |
Job Summary:Assist the School Support Coordinator in district designed interventions for students with behavior needs. Assist certified teachers in providing instruction and/or supervision to individual students or students in small groups monitor student progress and generally help students be successful. Essential Functions Duties and Responsibilities: - Work effectively with individual students and/or small groups of students on behavior strategies assigned materials and reinforcing concepts taught by certified teacher(s).
- Provide support for intervention plans designed for individual students
- Effectively communicate expectations assignments and instructions to students.
- Follow all safety and emergency procedures established by the district and/or school.
- Assist certified teacher with classroom management and student conduct as needed
- Must use sound judgement and reasoning to adapt as necessary in the absence of the regular instructional assistant and seek guidance from supervising teacher or administrator when appropriate
- Maintain the cleanliness of the classroom
- Protect confidential information of students and fellow staff members.
- Assure compliance with federal state and district policy administrative procedures and all other procedures/policies applicable to assignment.
- Prioritize plan and organize work to meet schedules and timelines.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with tact and patience.
- Follow proper reporting procedures for all matters including but not limited to behavioral issues bullying suspected child abuse or neglect etc.

Work Environment: (ex. Indoor environmentally controlled. Typical office environment including but not limited to telephones personal interruptions background noises. May require working with or near the public parents and children and will be subject to sounds scents and other related environmental factors. This position will require dealing with conflict and requires use of sound judgement.) Physical Demands: (example) 1. Light lifting 2. Sitting for long period of time 3. Hand and finger dexterity 4. Repetitive movement 5. Standing and walking intermittently throughout a typical work day Travel Requirements: (Frequency and Duration) <10% out of district Daily as needed within district boundaries |
