Job Summary
The Summer Reading Library Clerk - Seasonal employee is primarily required to support the activities of the Summer Reading Program (SRP). This entails assisting with library programing and maintenance with respect to Summer Programing outlined by library administration. Beyond this they assist patrons in accessing information and materials; create monthly library displays; and assists computer is required to perform all similar or related duties.
Essential Job Functions
- Supports the activities of the Summer Reading Program (SRP).
- Decorates and maintains library space. especially within the SRP season.
- Assists patrons with questions or concerns.
- Calls patrons with over dues (books).
- Collects fines.
- Files applications: answers phones.
- Calls for assistance with building maintenance problems.
- Assists with monthly reports.
- Assists with the Theater Complex programing and maintenance.
- Operates a cash register to collect fines and fees.
- Helps patrons with copy machine and scanning documents.
- Maintains Library area clean and neat.
- Assists Patrons.
- Maintain regular and prompt attendance; physically present to work.
- Performs after hours work as required (nights and weekends).
- Assist with emergency response as needed by city hall and local EOC.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
- Must have High School diploma or equivalent (GED)
- One (1) year of work experience or any equivalent combination of education to perform such job.
- Applicant must pass pre-employment criminal background check and drug screen at Citys expense.
- Applicant must have current valid Class C Drivers License and be insurable.
- Must successfully complete Emergency Management and Incident Command Training within first three months of hire date.
- Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred.
Knowledge Abilities and Skill
- Ability to interact effectively and appropriately with the public and other staff
- Able to work with children parents and guardians
- Proficient computer skills (ex. Excel Word etc.) mathematical skills recordkeeping and clerical skills written and oral communication skills; some bilingual skill would be preferred
Working Conditions/Physical Demands
Little or no physical demands required to perform the work. Lifts moves positions up to 30 lbs. Duties require minimal motor skills for activities such as moving objects operating a switchboard computer and/or most other office equipment typing and/or word processing filing sorting working with hand tools such as a hammer screwdriver or shovel.
