About Cloudflares Legal Team
The Cloudflare Legal team is at the forefront of some of the most complex and novel legal issues in technology today. You will be directly supporting our Policy and Public Sector Legal teams. These teams work collaboratively to navigate the rapidly evolving regulatory landscape ensure Cloudflares compliance with stringent government standards (like FedRAMP and StateRAMP) and advocate for policies that promote a secure privacy-respecting and innovative Internet.
What youll do
As a Summer Legal Intern you will dive headfirst into the intersection of law policy and cutting-edge technology. With a specific emphasis on the rapidly shifting AI and cybersecurity environments in North America your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- AI Policy & Compliance Research: Track and analyze emerging artificial intelligence legislation and frameworks across North America including US federal initiatives (e.g. Executive Orders NIST AI RMF) state-level AI regulations (e.g. California Colorado) and Canadas Artificial Intelligence and Data Act (AIDA).
- Cybersecurity Regulatory Tracking: Monitor updates to cybersecurity mandates such as CISAs Secure by Design guidelines SEC incident reporting rules and critical infrastructure protection frameworks.
- Public Sector Enablement: Assist the Public Sector legal team in reviewing and updating compliance materials related to FedRAMP StateRAMP and IRAP requirements helping to accelerate our mission to secure government entities.
- Drafting & Advocacy: Draft legal memos policy briefs and internal guidance documents outlining how new North American tech regulations impact Cloudflares product roadmap including our AI Gateway and zero-trust security services.
Examples of desirable skills knowledge and experience
- Education: Currently enrolled as a 1L or 2L in an ABA-accredited law school with an anticipated graduation date of 2027 or 2028.
- Tech-Forward Mindset: A strong demonstrated interest in technology law public policy cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.
- Analytical Rigor: Excellent legal research and writing skills with the ability to distill dense regulatory text into clear business-friendly advice.
- Initiative: A self-starter mentality. You are comfortable navigating ambiguity and thrive in a fast-paced highly collaborative environment.
- Ability to commit to a minimum 12 week summer internship.
- In the office 3-5 days a week in the Washington D.C. office
Bonus Points if you have:
- Prior experience (internships clinics or pre-law career) in government a public policy organization or a technology company
- Familiarity with Cloudflares products cloud computing infrastructure and the general mechanics of how the Internet works.
- Coursework or certifications in data privacy (CIPP/US) cybersecurity law or national security law.
Compensation
- Estimated hourly pay of $40/hour.
