Cloud Data Platform Engineer (Datasphere)

Summary

The Datasphere Engineer role is responsible for the design initialization implementation maintenance and support of the enterprise Datasphere platform. This role partners closely with business stakeholders the data engineering team the SAP team and security teams to establish the core architectural patterns security schema and operational standards that will enable a stable scalable cost-effective and secure platform across the organization. This role applies advanced data engineering and platform engineering principles to moderately complex and high value initiatives. This role will exercise independent judgment own key technical decisions and contribute to a long-term platform strategy while delivering a hands-on implementation.

Key Responsibilities

Platform Design Initialization & Implementation

Lead the initial setup and configuration of the Datasphere platform establishing foundational design patterns environments and operational standards.
Define and implement the Datasphere architecture including space organization separation of concerns and alignment to business domains.
Design and establish data integration between Datasphere and upstream / downstream systems including Databricks and SAP.

Platform Maintenance & Support

Lead the identification and assessment of on-going maintenance and support needs for the Datasphere platform.
Provide on-going maintenance and support in coordination with other teams for the Datasphere platform.

Security & Governance

Partner with business stakeholders to design and implement the Datasphere security model.
Ensure the platform aligns with enterprise data governance standards and security best practices.
Contribute to the definition of platform access and security roles to enable secure selfservice while maintaining appropriate controls.

Stakeholder Collaboration

Work directly with business and technical stakeholders to understand data access and operational requirements.
Translate business needs into technical designs that balance stability scalability and cost-effectiveness.
Provide guidance and recommendations on Datasphere capabilities constraints and best practices.

Engineering & Delivery

Develop and maintain infrastructure as code to enable automation of configuring and supporting the Datasphere platform.
Apply data engineering best practices to ensure stability scalability and cost-effectiveness of the platform.
Participate as a technical lead or primary on platformrelated initiatives providing estimates and contributing to delivery planning.

Documentation & Enablement

Create and maintain clear technical documentation for Datasphere architecture security models and operational processes.
Contribute to onboarding materials and knowledge sharing to enable adoption by data engineers and business users.
Mentor team members and provide technical guidance related to Datasphere usage and design.
Provide time and effort estimates for assigned work.

Typical Education

Bachelors degree in Computer Science Information Systems Data Engineering or a related field or equivalent practical experience

Required Qualifications

• 4-10 years of experience in data engineering platform engineering or analytics platform implementation.
• Experience with cloudbased data platforms and modern data engineering tools.
• Strong understanding of data platform architecture and data modeling concepts.
• Proficiency in SQL and familiarity with automation scripting or infrastructureascode concepts.
• Ability to evaluate and recommend platform design patterns based on business and technical requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience standing up or modernizing an enterprise analytics or data sharing platform.
• Experience working in crossfunctional teams with data engineering security and business stakeholders.
• Exposure to largescale data platforms and integration with enterprise data platforms.
• Experience with SAP Joule Databricks Snowflake Azure or Terraform
