Job Summary

  • 45% - Write news and feature articles weekly blog posts and other strategic writing as needed. Research and interview contacts for articles. Pitch story ideas to communications team.
  • 35% - Write and brainstorm social media content. Curate social media content. Assist in community management and social media strategy.
  • 10% - Provide event marketing and logistic support.
  • 5% - Assist in editing and proofreading collateral.
  • 5% - Perform other marketing and PR tasks as assigned.

Work Schedule
Flexible; up to 15 hours weekly. Not to exceed 20 hours weekly.

  1. Journalism (any of the four concentrations) marketing English and/or communications studies major.
  2. Strong social media skills (creating content community management ability to tailor messages for each platform).
  3. Writing and interviewing experience.
  4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  5. Strong editing/proofreading skills.
  6. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  7. Willingness to perform a variety of duties.
  8. Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet short deadlines.
  9. Working knowledge of AP style.


  1. At least two semesters left prior to graduation.
  2. Basic photography and videography skills.
  3. Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suites.
  4. Knowledge of business journalism.
  5. Knowledge of Google and/or other web analytics platforms.


Position Overview
As a marketing communications intern youll get hands-on training about everything it takes to run a communications and public relations office. This position is fast-paced and requires weekly blogging daily social media content creation and engagement and event management support as needed. Youll work as part of the communications team with the director of communications communications coordinator video producer and graphic designer. Youll research and write about business-related topics. The position provides the opportunity for experience in multiple aspects of a busy marketing communications office. The primary focus of the position is strategic communication skills but a knowledge of digital analytics would be helpful. By the end of this time you will have a diverse portfolio of work samples and experiences.

Position Requirements
During the semester term of the appointment the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

Employment Conditions
(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.

(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
