Job Summary

Position Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly skilled Microbiologist to support public health surveillance through the testing and analysis of wastewater and water this critical laboratory role you will coordinate and perform molecular testing for SARS-CoV-2 and other targets of public health concern. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in RNA/DNA extraction and PCR testing a commitment to quality control and regulatory compliance and the ability to accurately interpret and report complex laboratory data in a regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities:-
Conduct wastewater and water sample concentration RNA extraction and PCR-based molecular testing.

Receive log and maintain accurate laboratory records for all submitted samples.

Evaluate interpret validate and report laboratory test results in accordance with established protocols.

Perform and document all required quality control checks on laboratory methods reagents and equipment.

Ensure compliance with laboratory certification requirements safety standards and regulatory guidelines.

Assist in compiling analyzing and preparing laboratory reports from generated data.

Participate in the evaluation and implementation of new laboratory methods materials and products.

Maintain laboratory organization cleanliness and biosafety practices at all times.

Participate in proficiency testing programs and corrective action processes as required.

Collaborate effectively with laboratory staff and public health partners to support program objectives.

Perform additional laboratory duties as assigned to support operational needs.
Education:
-
Bachelors degree (B.S. or B.A.) in a biological science or related field.
Experience:
-
Demonstrated experience performing RNA/DNA extraction and PCR molecular testing (required).

Experience working in an environmental public health or molecular laboratory preferred.
Technical & Scientific Skills:
-
Extensive knowledge of molecular biology principles theories and testing methodologies.

Proficiency with molecular and standard laboratory equipment.

Strong ability to compile analyze interpret and validate laboratory data.

Knowledge of laboratory quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) procedures.

Familiarity with state and federal laws regulations and policies related to laboratory testing.
Safety & Compliance:

Comprehensive understanding of laboratory safety practices and biosafety standards.

Ability to meet and maintain all certification and proficiency testing requirements.
Communication & Collaboration:

Strong verbal and written communication skills for reporting technical information.

Ability to maintain productive working relationships within a team-based laboratory environment.
Schedule Requirements:

Full-time Monday Friday schedule (7.5-hour workday).
