We are seeking an intellectually curious and engaging Sociology Teacher to join a high-energy Social Sciences department in Peterborough. Known for its magnificent cathedral its rapid expansion as a New Town and its vibrant multicultural population Peterborough provides a rich real-world laboratory for sociological enquiry. We are looking for an educator who can navigate the rigours of this popular A-Level subject while fostering a genuine sense of social justice and critical awareness.


Core Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Excellence: Planning and delivering high-quality Sociology lessons primarily at Key Stage 5 (A-Level) with potential contributions to GCSE Sociology or Humanities electives at Key Stage 4.

  • Theoretical Mastery: Delivering expert instruction on core sociological pillars including Education Families and Households Crime and Deviance and Beliefs in Society.

  • Methodological Rigour: Teaching students the fundamental tools of the trade from analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of quantitative data (social surveys) to the nuances of qualitative research (participant observation).

  • Exam Preparation: Guiding students through the demands of external examinations (AQA or OCR) with a heavy focus on high-level evaluation the application of theoretical perspectives (Marxism Functionalism Feminism Postmodernism) and essay structure.

  • Contemporary Debate: Facilitating respectful high-level classroom discussions on pressing social issuesincluding social mobility institutional racism and the impact of digital media on identity.

  • Pastoral Leadership: Serving as a dedicated Form Tutor providing a supportive environment and helping students navigate their post-18 pathways including university applications and degree apprenticeships.

Candidate Profile
