Job Summary

Directing Energy Environmental & Infrastructure policy across Defence

Position Role:

SO1 Capability Policy

Responsibilities:

  • Support Hd Energy and Capability in delivering Energy and Capability outputs.
  • Assist in the coordination of the Energy and Capability programme ensuring agreed plans are published and tracked.
  • Develop specific projects e.g. with Dstl to support achieving operational advantage.
  • Act as the UKs lead official on the NATO Climate Change and Security Centre of Excellence (CCASCOE) Steering Committee.
  • Lead deep dives of capabilities with regard to energy and resilience risk and drive related cross-MOD risk mitigation and adaptation activity.
  • Work alongside the directorate SLT and AHs to cohere outputs and ensure coordinated development of necessary policy and guidance from a Energy and Capability perspective.
  • Support DDir in the coordination of strategy development across the directorate.
  • Advocate for EEI across the Armed Forces and Whitehall.
  • Acting as the directorate Royal Navy focal point.

Other Comments

This is high profile pivotal and dynamic role at the heart of Main Building within the key area of Energy Environment and Infrastructure (EEI). With a fast evolving energy environment the successful candidate must have a proven track record of working in a high paced senior staff environment and will support the Energy and Capability area in developing and promoting the departments programme. The candidate will be expected to operate pan-Whitehall within Defence Other Governmental Departments and with national and international partners. The postholder requires the ability to work with minimal supervision to drive energy and resilience policy and must have strong written and oral communication skills. Past experience in this area is highly desirable in order to support delivery of the 2025 Strategic Defence Reviews direction and Defence Industrial Strategy.
