Job context
The College of Medical and Health (CMH) is committed to embedding sustainability within its education in line with the University of Birminghams Strategy 2030 and sustainability priorities. As part of an Education Enhancement Fund (EEF) project this work aims to enhance student engagement with sustainability through innovative co-curricular opportunities.
This role will support the development of a UoB XTRA activity designed to enable students to explore sustainability in biomedical contexts including environmental social and economic dimensions.
Job summary
The Undergraduate Research Assistant will work with academic staff to co-design and develop a sustainability-focused UoB XTRA activity. The student will contribute to shaping engaging student-centred learning experiences and resources that connect biomedical sciences to real-world sustainability challenges.
The role offers an opportunity to gain experience in curriculum design student engagement and sustainability education.
Main duties
Support the design and development of a sustainability-focused UoB XTRA co-curricular activity
Contribute ideas for engaging and interactive student learning experiences
Conduct background research on sustainability topics relevant to CMH
Assist in developing activity materials (e.g. prompts resources guidance documents)
Provide a student perspective to ensure the activity is accessible engaging and relevant
Support the pilot development and refinement of the activity
Required knowledge skills qualifications & experience
Current final year undergraduate student in Biomedical Sciences or a related CMH discipline
Interest in sustainability global health or environmental issues
Strong communication and organisational skills
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Interest in education student engagement or curriculum development (desirable)
Creative and proactive approach to problem-solving
Ability to meet deadlines and manage time effectively

The University of Birmingham restricts all students to working up to 20 hours per week during term time for a maximum of 13 consecutive weeks.
