POSITION HOURS AND PAY:
This position is for 5hours per day at 178days per year.
*7hours per day for 4days for the first year and 2 days each year following until certification is completed.

Position pay: PSE Salary Schedule Level 5 - $ 24.76

Required Training -

*Must successfully complete the Fundamental Course of Studies (FCS) and General Paraeducator Certificate of the state mandated Paraeducator Certificate Program per State requirements. Paraeducator Certificate Program is dependent upon State funding.

IMPORTANT: In order to be considered for an interview for this instructional paraeducator position you must meet the following federal minimum employment requirements.

• Must be 18 years of age; and
• Hold high school diploma or its equivalent; and one of the following
  • Successfully passed the ETS Para Pro test orPearson Paraprofessional assessment
  • AA degree or higher
  • Earned seventy-two (72) quarter credits or forty-eight (48) semester credits at an accredited institution of higher education
  • Completion of registered apprenticeship program offered by the Washington State Dept. of Labor & Industries
  • Successful completion ofThe Master Teacher Inc. Paraeducator Online Training Program

Para testing information. DESCRIPTION:
This positions responsibilities are to assist certificated staff with instructional and non-instructional activities for students considered academically at risk working individually or in small groups under a categorical remediation program titled: Learning Assistance Program (LAP) including maintaining program records and to preparing classroom materials under the supervision of a LAP Specialist.

Job Summary:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Depending upon the individual assignment which may emphasize instructing students or performing clerical and data entry tasks for others in the same category the Paraeducator ï½ LAP may perform all or a combination of several of the following:

1. Instructs students individually or in small groups in a variety of subject areas settings and learning activities. Implements methods to best serve individual students academically and behaviorally under the direction of certificated staff; promotes student understanding of materials. Promotes a positive attitude toward learning. Reinforces concepts and skills.

2. Assists with program compliance with statutes and regulations by maintaining accurate data and program records on the computer; maintains records and files in the required format. May collect input and process data and documentation for the LAP program of an entire school.

3. Works as a member of the program instructional team to provide programs and services to eligible students.

4. Depending upon assignment may pull students out of regular classroom for remediation as directed by the program coordinator. Locates prepares and/or modifies materials for student use under the direction of certificated staff. Provides guidance and motivation to students; facilitates mastery of skills concepts; promotes completion of work.

5. Communicates with certificated staff concerning individual student needs and progress; assists with developing schedules for tutoring; adapts and presents lessons; checks and scores student assignments.

6. Assists with administration of objective screening of students for program qualification and eligibility; sets up testing schedules orders tests scores tests and records results. Communicates information to teachers so they may notify parents.

7. Documents progress of assigned student; maintains program coordination records manually and on computer and assists in preparing student progress reports. Assists with program achievement tests.

8. Maintains a variety of program files and records according to established procedures and timelines including student lists and program inventory; may provide information for program audits; prepares reports as directed.

9. Constructs learning tools such as flash cards number games and other learning materials; may research and locate learning materials; compiles materials for student assignments; may order materials and supplies as needed.

10. Supervises student behavior and assists teacher with classroom management; facilitates mastery of social adjustment skills; ensures that students stay on task; disciplines students as authorized.

11. Types duplicates collates and distributes program materials. May create posters and charts and design bulletin boards. Operates a variety of office equipment and computers.

12. Maintains physical appearance of the classroom and assigned areas; straightens chairs and tables; puts materials away after use.

OTHER FUNCTIONS

13. Alerts qualified district staff to student problems.

14. When meets program review standards provides general clerical support; maintains program files and records provides teacher support by duplicating materials and performs related tasks.

15. Attends a variety of staff and program meetings as requested.

16. May serve on various district committees and/or departmental work teams. Models appropriate and cooperative behavior including protecting confidential information consistent with district ethical guidelines.

17. Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.


REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to the school principal. Receives guidance from a basic skills specialist; coordinates with certificated staff.

MENTAL DEMANDS
May experience frequent interruptions; required to deal with a wide range of student behaviors and academic ability; may be required to deal with a wide range of physical or emotional disabilities; may occasionally deal with distraught or difficult students.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Potentially exposed to ordinary infectious diseases carried by students; exposed to student noise levels; use of equipment such as paper cutters in presence of students requires safety awareness; may be exposed to visual display terminal for prolonged periods.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Education training skills and experience necessary to carry out the assignment with experience working with school-aged children and instructional and remedial education experience preferred. Associate degree or two years of higher education or completion of the Washington State paraeducator assessment preferred*.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students and staff.

Licenses/Special Requirements
Requires fingerprinting and background check to determine that there have been no convictions involving physical molestation abuse injury or neglect of a minor. Must complete training in and adhere to district infection control plan.
