Doctoral Bonus: An employee with an earned doctorate from an accredited collegiate institution will receive a $2000 annual doctoral stipend. Any additional earned doctorate will not be eligible for additional amounts.

JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the President of Grossmont College the Vice President of Student Services has the responsibility of providing leadership and direction to the student services division comprised of Counseling Admissions and Records Financial Aid Student Affairs Extended Opportunities Programs and Services (EOPS) Disabled Students Programs and Services (DSPS/Accessibility Resource Center) Transfer Center Basic Needs Dual Enrollment and Athletics.
There is an emphasis on providing services both in-person and online. Duties also include providing direction and coordination for appropriate special grant projects. Directly reporting to the Vice President are the Dean of Counseling Services Dean of First Year Services and Retention Dean of Student Success and Equity Dean of Student Affairs and Basic Needs Associate Dean of Student Services and Special Programs Associate Dean of Athletics Director of Admissions and Records and Director of Financial Aid.
The Vice President serves as a member of the Presidents Cabinet and is responsible for making recommendations to the President regarding Student Services. Other duties include providing support for institutional planning and coordination with other college areas including but not limited to Instruction Administrative Services and Institutional Advancement. This is a top leadership role within a growing and dynamic college. Working with faculty staff students and members of the community the incumbent plays a significant role in creating a vision for success and learning into the future.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
To provide leadership and supervise the planning organization and coordination of student services to advance the Colleges vision mission and strategic goals.
Provide direction to managers who directly supervise core departments of counseling admissions financial aid student affairs basic needs and special programs; oversee the development and evaluation of policies and procedures for these areas.
Direct the recruitment selection assignment supervision and evaluation of certificated student service personnel and classified staff.
Ensure compliance with District-negotiated agreements including adherence to regular evaluation cycles processes and timelines.
Promote opportunities for professional learning for faculty classified professionals and administrators within the Student Services unit.
Oversee the Student Services program review process and annual unit plan (AUP).
Lead participate in and/or attend institutional functions such as student recognition ceremonies commencement convocation and other related events.
Participate in appropriate professional and/or community organizations.
Actively engage in participatory governance through committee and council service at the college and district levels.
Support the President in representing the College to the district Governing Board by attending regular Board meetings; represent the College at Board meetings in the Presidents absence; represent the College as VPSS to K-12 partners community partners and organizations at professional meetings and public functions.
Advise and confer with the President on management issues involving programs and services of the college including development and/or revision of policies and procedures.
Participate in integrated strategic and long-range planning for college activities and programs.
Prepare recommend and implement budgets for assigned areas; upon expenditure variations take necessary action to assure compliance with budget limitations and established fiscal policies.
Direct the preparation of reports as required by federal state local and district regulations; inform the President and other district staff as to the status of assigned functions or groups of services.
Maintain current knowledge of legislation and educational trends pertinent to student services philosophy and practice.
Perform other duties as assigned by the President.
SPECIAL SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to prevent and resolve conflicts and problems; plan measure and evaluate programs services and activities; supervise staff; analyze and apply laws rules and regulations and build consensus.
Work effectively with the President/District other administrators faculty staff other educational institutions; community groups and individual citizens.
Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic socioeconomic cultural disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and staff.
In-depth knowledge of the Education Code Title 5 and other administrative regulations and the ability to apply these regulations.
Ability to provide innovative leadership in the development and achievement of the college vision and articulate that vision to faculty and staff.
Ability to work cooperatively and responsively with all segments of the College District and community at large.
Ability to successfully delegate ensure adherence to College and District policies practices and procedures hold others responsible yet instill confidence among the faculty and staff.
Sensitivity to all facets of the community including the needs of various groups which comprise it.
Ability to exercise strong dynamic academic leadership to advance the Colleges mission.
Facilitate communication and understanding of perspectives among faculty staff students the community Chancellor and Governing board within the framework of a multi-college district.

Current knowledge of legislation and educational trends pertinent to student success equity and instructional philosophy and practice.
Experience directing the recruitment selection assignment supervision and evaluation of personnel.
Experience in the college planning process while participating in the achievement of institutional goals and procedures.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: a Masters degree in counseling education or closely related field and three years of increasingly responsible management experience in an educational institution of which two years of management experience have been with emphasis in the area or closely related area of the administrators assignment.
The position requires specialized mastery in a field of management or education combining conceptual understanding with broad applied experience and requires the use of this knowledge in the development of new concepts and imaginative approaches for the resolution of novel nonrecurring and complex situations.
