Purpose Statement
The job of Payroll Technician IV is for the purpose/s of providing support to department activities with specific responsibility for ensuring the accuracy of payroll and payroll-related information; generating payroll checks in accordance with established district state and federal requirements; responding to inquiries and/or requests for data and/or reports; maintaining confidential employee records; and directing assigned employees.
This job reports to the Payroll Coordinator
Essential Functions
Coordinates payroll processes with other departments and sites to deliver services in compliance with established guidelines.
Inform other staff and/or outside parties regarding procedural requirements for the purpose of administering payroll practices and ensuring compliance with established guidelines.
Inputs and edits data for new hires and current employees utilizing a variety of software systems for the purpose of ensuring accuracy of data and availability of records in compliance with district policy and guidelines.
Maintains a wide variety of payroll information for the purpose of ensuring the availability of documentation and compliance with established policies and regulatory guidelines.
Monitors assigned payroll activities and/or program components for the purpose of coordinating activities and ensuring compliance with established financial legal and/or administrative requirements.
Oversees assigned payroll personnel for the purpose of enhancing the productivity of staff and ensuring the accuracy of the payroll process.
Participates in unit meetings in-service training workshops etc. for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.
Processes a wide variety of payroll documents and materials (e.g. time sheets withholding information employee contributions etc.) for the purpose of disseminating information to appropriate parties.
Research discrepancies of payroll information and/or documentation (e.g. time sheets leave time etc.) for the purpose of ensuring accuracy and adherence to procedures prior to processing.
Resolves discrepancies with payroll and/or benefit information and/or documentation (e.g. payroll benefit provider/s withholding versus W4 salary status etc.) for the purpose of ensuring accuracy of records and employee payments.
Responds to inquiries regarding payroll procedures (e.g. wage levies and garnishments savings contributions direct deposits etc.) for the purpose of providing necessary information for making decisions assisting employees taking appropriate action and/or complying with established fiscal guidelines.
Supports the Payroll Coordinator in completing payroll operations to ensure timely and accurate processing.
Provides back-up in the absence of the Payroll Coordinator for the purpose of completing the central processing of payroll to accurately account for general employee payroll and payroll vendor payments.
Other Functions
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Skills Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform multiple technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment using pertinent software applications; performing standard bookkeeping; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; read a variety of manuals write documents following prescribed formats and/or present information to others; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: principles and techniques involved in payroll preparation; labor contracts and their impact on payroll; state and federal accounting/bookkeeping guidelines; spreadsheet software applications; and a working knowledge of School ERP and Timeclock Plus applications.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities meetings and/or events; gather collate and/or classify data; and use job- related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide range of individuals handle a variety of data and use job-related equipment. Problem-solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem-solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines and problem-solving with equipment is limited. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; working as part of a team with detailed information/data and frequent interruptions.
Responsibility
Responsibilities include working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; directing others within a small work unit; and utilizing resources from other work units to perform the jobs functions. There is a continual opportunity to have some impact on the organizations services.
Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: some lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling some stooping kneeling crouching and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 50% sitting 25% walking and 25% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
Experience: Job-related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
