This position is grant funded and continued employment is contingent upon grant funding.
Primary Purpose:
The instructional coach works as a colleague with classroom teachers to support district efforts to increase math and ELAR achievement.
Qualifications:
Education and Certification
- Bachelors degree required from an accredited university
- Masters degree preferred
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for subject and level assigned
- ESL certification preferred
Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience in an elementary/secondary school setting; more than one grade experience is preferred
Special Knowledge and Skills
- Deep understanding of instructional pedagogy
- Success as evidenced by student results in the area of math and/or reading
- Deep understanding of current math and/or ELAR Standards for the State of Texas (TEKS)
- Excellent organizational communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience in conducting professional development
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Works with teachers (in teams or individually) to refine their knowledge and skills; Methods of instruction may include in-class coaching peer observation co-teaching and modeling effective instruction using a gradual release model.
- Mentors teachers for the purpose of improving math and/or ELAR instruction and building their capacity to teach others.
- Establishes a coaching partnership with teachers.
- Identifies a compelling measurable goal for coaching interactions.
- Maintains a variety of manual and electronic files and/or records for the purpose of determining success of math and/or ELAR coaching on student achievement.
- Works in partnership with the Elementary/Secondary Curriculum Department to improve math/ELAR education.
- Attends meetings as scheduled by the Elementary/Secondary Curriculum Department.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Elementary/Secondary Curriculum Department.
Other Related Duties:
- Follows district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Participates in professional development faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment
Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting bending/stooping pushing/pulling and twisting
Motion: Frequent walking
Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment
Environment: Work inside may work outside; regular exposure to noise; occasional districtwide and statewide travel
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours
