Basic Functions: The Expanded Learning Technology Services Technician provides comprehensive hands-on technology support for Expanded Learning Programs across Gilroy Unified School District. This role blends districtwide information technology responsibilities with a specialized focus on afterschool enrichment tutoring and extended-day learning environments.
The Technician serves as a primary point of contact for Expanded Learning technology needs ensuring reliable secure and effective use of instructional technology for students and staff. This position requires independent judgment strong problem-solving skills and a collaborative mindset to support teaching and learning beyond the traditional school day.
Typical Duties
Expanded Learning Program Support
- Serve as the primary technology support contact for Expanded Learning sites and programs
- Support instructional technology used in Expanded Learning including tutoring enrichment and intervention programs
- Set up maintain and troubleshoot technology for Expanded Learning events trainings and student activities
- Collaborate with Expanded Learning Coordinator Supervisor and site staff to align technology use with program goals
- Provide staff training and coaching to build confidence and capacity in using instructional technology
- Support Expanded Learning instructional platforms including:
o BookNook & Littera (training reporting Aeries/Clever syncing)
o ST Math (updates training data/report support)
o Scholastic platforms (training reporting system syncing)
o zSpace (software updates staff training curriculum support)
- Maintain inventory updates and secure storage of Expanded Learning laptops Chromebooks iPads iPhones and accessories.
- Asset tag equipment as needed
District Technology Services
- Install configure maintain and support district-approved hardware software and network-connected devices
- Provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 technical support for computers mobile devices printers projectors phones and peripherals
- Troubleshoot hardware software and connectivity issues in a timely and professional manner
- Assist staff and students with Google Workspace Aeries email systems and other district applications
- Create modify and maintain user accounts and permissions in district systems as assigned
- Assist with installation and maintenance of network wiring cabling and IP-enabled devices
- Support district telephone systems and related infrastructure as directed
- Monitor and assist with network performance security and bandwidth usage
- Maintain accurate records inventories and documentation related to technology assets and services
- Coordinate repair replacement warranty service and disposal of obsolete equipment per district guidelines
Training Documentation and Collaboration
- Develop and maintain user guides training materials and technical documentation
- Provide in-person phone and remote support to staff and students
- Communicate clearly and effectively with diverse stakeholders including school sites vendors and district departments
- Assist in providing quotes and recommendations for software and hardware purchases
- Support district and site goals related to instructional technology and Expanded Learning initiatives
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in information technology preferably in a K12 or educational environment
- Experience supporting instructional technology and educational software preferred
Licenses & Certifications
- Valid California Drivers License required
- IT-related certifications are desirable
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Working knowledge of educational technology platforms and cloud-based systems
- Knowledge of computer hardware operating systems and common software applications
- Basic to intermediate understanding of network environments and data communications
- Ability to diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues independently
- Ability to train and support staff in the effective use of technology
- Strong problem-solving critical thinking and organizational skills
- Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively in oral and written form
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and student populations
- Willingness and ability to stay current with emerging technologies relevant to K12 education and Expanded Learning
PHYSICAL DEMANDS (consideration will be given to reasonable accommodation):
- Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 90 pounds occasionally
- Ability to bend crouch kneel crawl twist and reach in confined spaces
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and walk throughout school sites
- Ability to work from ladders or at heights when installing equipment
- Manual dexterity to operate computers tools and office equipment
- Ability to see hear and communicate effectively in a standard work environment
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

- Driving a vehicle to conduct business
- Work may occur outside of traditional school hours to support Expanded Learning Programs.
