Primary Purpose:
The school counselor will lead a developmental comprehensive school counseling program that supports students as they fully develop their own academic career personal and social abilities.
Education/Certification:
- Masters degree in school counseling.
- Valid Texas school counseling certificate.
Experience/Other Requirements:
- Two years of teaching experience is preferred.
- A personal cell phone is required to handle district related business including after hours or when away from the office on district business.
Special Knowledge and Skills:
- Utilize data and collaborate with students parents faculty and staff and community members to plan implement evaluate and adjust a balanced Comprehensive School Counseling Program that includes a Guidance Curriculum Responsive Services Individual Planning and System Support.
- Exceptional organizational skills with an ability to foster a collaborative culture through advanced interpersonal skills and reflective professional practices.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Program Management
- Organize and oversee a counseling school advisory program via collaboration with students parents school personnel and community members.
- Manage human fiscal and other resources effectively.
Guidance Curriculum
- Use accepted counseling theories to develop deliver and evaluate engaging developmental classroom guidance lessons.
- Involve students parents and school personnel to promote an effective guidance curriculum.
- Guide individual students and groups of students as they develop educational plans and career awareness.
- Provide students with transitional services between educational levels and settings.
Counseling
- Deliver evidence-based individual and small group counseling theories tailored to varied student needs encompassing developmental preventative remedial and crisis support.
- Provide appropriate and timely followup.
Consultation
- Collaborate with parents school staff and community members to promote student success and foster an understanding of human relations child development behavior cultural context and environment.
Coordination
- Coordinate school home and community resources to promote student success through effective referral processes to relevant programs and services.
Student Assessment
- Collaborate with students parents and campus staff to interpret assessment data and guide students to set goals and plan for the future.
Leadership and Advocacy
- Utilize advocacy and leadership skills to remove barriers to the personal and academic success of students.
- Enhance the learning environment so the school remains responsive to the personal emotional social and academic needs of all students.
Professionalism
- Promote and follow school counseling ethical standards.
- Engage in reflective practices and participate in professional development to directly improve skills and knowledge related to a professional school counselor.
- Establish and maintain professional relationships with all stakeholders.
- Comply with policies established by federal and state laws State Board of Education rule and Board Policy.
- Follow district and campus procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
