Job Summary
Department Overview
The purpose of this position is to provide support to OHSU outpatient pharmacy specialty services and the
Knight Cancer medical/surgical oncology pharmacy program. Responsibilities include prescription prior
authorization and approval prescription dispensing medication histories patient outreach and medication
assistance. The individual is required to have extensive knowledge of third party processing EpicCare and
Epic Willow. This position will primarily work on VPV floors 3-7 but may be asked to work in an OHSU
outpatient pharmacy when other team members are on leave.
Function/Duties of Position
- Assists in all technical support activities relating to prior authorizationrequests and approvals.
- In-charge of obtaining medication history of admitted patients age 65 and olderand comprehensive understanding of medication reconciliation process.
- Supports OHSU outpatient pharmacy program through activities such asprescription dispensing patient outreach specialty pharmacy enrollmentand refill reminders.
- Provides medication assistance support to OHSU patients. Assistspharmacists in non-clinical activities e.g. maintenance of Medication Assistance Program patient information. Receives and maintains medicationassistance inventory.
- Interacts with other health care team members and patients and displays a highlevel of customer service commitment
- Triages incoming phone calls from pharmacy staff patients and providers
- Understands billing systems (both internal and external third party) andprescription processing
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma active State of Oregon Pharmacy Technician LicenseAND
- 1 year of pharmacy work experience or equivalent additional education;AND
- Certification from the national Pharmacy Technician Certification Board or National Health career Association. Certification must be maintained.

- Must possess computer keyboarding skills.
- Ability to read and understand medical-related terms.
- Ability to perform basic pharmaceutical mathematics calculations.
- Ability to establish priorities in workflow.
- Good interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work under supervision of diverse Pharmacists
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation
Preferred Qualifications
- Formal pharmacy technician training program
- Inpatient and outpatient hospital pharmacy experience.
- Medical and scientific nomenclature
Additional Details
The individual will experience competing demands on their time from clinic staff and/or patients and willneed to effectively multi-task. Must be able to perform well within a team environment and work in acollaborative and cooperative manner. Must be able to deliver a consistently high level of customer service. Ability to stand/walk for 6-8 continuous hours per day. Additionally this candidate will need to function for long periods of time using a computer terminal. Must be able to work effectively with minimal directsupervision.
