Job Summary
Position Overview
BayCare Health System one of the nations best-performing not-for-profit health care systems serving the communities of West Central Florida is seeking an exceptional orthopedic surgeon and leader to serve as the Medical Director for the BayCare Orthopedic Institute responsible for developing and overseeing the orthopedics program across the health system. This position will collaborate with executives and medical leadership across the BayCare system. The role requires strategic leadership innovative thinking and the ability to navigate and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. The Medical Director will oversee clinical operations quality program/institute development community outreach and research while actively promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Medical Staff Leadership
- Serve as leader mentor and advocate for BayCare orthopedic medical staff.
- Oversee onboarding programs for new orthopedic physicians.
- Develop multi-year recruitment plan in collaboration with BayCares clinical and administrative leadership.
- Assist in recruitment of physician talent for BayCare Orthopedic Institute.
- Cultivate culture of excellence amongst medical staff and clinical teams.
- Create structures to foster collaboration with private and community orthopedic providers.
2. Clinical Quality
- Develop and oversee policies for orthopedic care delivery for BayCare.
- Ensure clinical protocols and policies are rigorous and up to date.
- Ensure quality and academic advances align with those of the BayCare system.
- Implement patient safety risk management and quality initiatives with the support of the clinical team.
- Identify areas for improvement based upon key performance indicators and create improvement plans/training curriculum as needed.
- Assist in the standardization of implantable devices/other medical supplies and devices.
- Ensure that BayCare Orthopedic Institute medical staff are in compliance with clinical quality and operating standards.
3. Operational Oversight
- Be the clinical lead for orthopedics coordinating across multiple hospitals and sites of care.
- Work with inpatient and outpatient clinical leadership to promote connectivity across the musculoskeletal care continuum.
- Help to develop and implement the ASC strategy for BayCare orthopedics.
- Provide guidance on process improvement efforts and optimizations for the orthopedics program.
- Interface with anesthesia radiology physical therapy and other ancillary services to provide optimal care for orthopedic patients.
- Work to implement changes to improve stakeholder satisfaction (including patients/families all involved physicians referring providers and staff).
4. Programmatic Development
- Oversee and develop programs related to orthopedic conditions.
- Work with the VP of Clinical Institutes and other BayCare leadership to build business and program development plans to increase market presence and market share.
- Assist in establishing and overseeing strategic initiatives with local/regional employers industry partners and other strategic partners.
- Serve as the public face for BayCare Orthopedic Institute interfacing with community groups other health systems medical groups etc.
Qualifications
Candidate Qualifications:
- Clinical Experience minimum 10 years
- Executive Leadership Experience in a healthcare setting minimum 2 years
- Masters Healthcare Administration or Business Administration is preferred
- Board Certification by The American Board of Orthopedic Surgery
- Ability to obtain a Florida Medical License
