What youll be doing
Under the supervision and direction of a lawyer in CIBC Legal Department a law clerk collects reviews summarizes analyzes records and assists with the identification and analysis of legal issues assists with projects and other legal matters and provides timely advice and guidance on litigation matters including the interpretation of legal documents. Activities under the supervision of a lawyer may include researching reviewing commenting communicating within CIBC external counsel or opposing counsel writing a report memo or correspondence or attending small claims court.

How youll succeed
- Research and Information - Review of routine and basic legal matters. Responds to requests for legal advice by ascertaining the facts and collecting relevant bank documents researching legislation and case law and drafting appropriate recommendations.
- Communication- Under the supervision of a lawyer provide advice on more complex issues. Draft routine and/or standardized documents including Affidavits with direction from a lawyer.
- Legal Support - Manage small claims litigation matters including attending settlement conferences. Create draft and distribute standard reports to business on an as-needed basis. Handle standardized legal/business files and projects from start to finish with direction from a lawyer. Manage e-discovery processes including preservation notices and release notices. Assist in preparing CIBC witnesses for trial for litigation matters and assist with subpoenas.
Who you are
- Youre a certified professional. The successful candidate must have a law clerk diploma or be enrolled in an accredited law clerk program or equivalent. It would be an asset to be a licensed Paralegal or a Notary Public. A background in Litigation is preferred.
