The Opportunity

Our External Relations US group is currently seeking an experienced and well-connected Senior Advisor of Congressional Relations with the ability to work across the political aisle to join our U.S. External Relations team based in Washington DC.

Reporting to the Director Congressional Relations this pivotal role is responsible for developing and implementing advocacy strategy to positively influence federal legislation which impacts the energy sector and TC Energys business units.

What you will do

Serve as a trusted advisor and advocate ensuring TC Energys voice is heard and our interests are effectively represented
Monitor and analyze legislative developments and other federal government proposals that may impact TC Energy and the broader energy industry
Develop and execute comprehensive advocacy strategies to influence the legislative process on issues critical to TC Energy and its business units
Establish and maintain strong relationships with Members of Congress congressional staff and other key stakeholders and policymakers. Demonstrated relationships with Members on the following Committees a plus: ENR EPW E&C HNR and T&I
Coordinate advocacy efforts with internal cross-functional teams trade associations and industry partners to amplify TC Energys messaging and impact
Prepare position papers talking points one-pagers and other materials to support TC Energys advocacy strategy
Organize and lead effective meetings briefings and events to educate and engage external stakeholders on TC Energys policy priorities
Assess the potential impacts of proposed legislation on business operations and strategic goals
Provide timely and insightful reports and recommendations to TC Energy leadership on key policy developments
Represent the company in industry forums conferences political fundraisers and other events to raise TC Energys profile and influence
Serve as a subject matter expert providing guidance and strategic advice to internal teams on legislative matters
Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to ensure TC Energys advocacy efforts adhere to all applicable lobbying laws and regulations.

Minimum Qualifications

Post-Secondary degree in a related field
8-10 years of experience in government affairs public policy or lobbying
Proven experience and a demonstrated track record of successful employment in the natural gas and/or energy sector
Extensive knowledge of the legislative at the federal level as well as a deep understanding of energy policy
Existing network with Congressional lawmakers and staff
Knowledge of policy issues affecting natural gas and natural gas infrastructure
Ability to leverage external consultants to develop and execute effective advocacy strategies
Proven ability to develop and execute effective advocacy strategies leveraging relationships with policymakers regulatory agencies and industry stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced degree (e.g. Masters in Public Administration or Juris Doctor)
Congressional staff experience

This position requires candidates to:

This position will involve travel and overnight stays away from home (estimated up to 25% of work schedule during peak work periods).
Occasionally be available for extended work hours outside of standard business hours as needed.
