ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Program Manager Transit Fleet is responsible for providing technical support to the Transit Branch to ensure that contractors are maintaining transit vehicles and related equipment in accordance with contract specifications and quality standards on a variety of vehicles for Conventional Mobility Plus and Bus Rapid Transit including mechanical inspections and assessment of assigned vehicles and auditing of contractor mechanical work documentation and legislated certifications.

WHAT YOULL BE DOING

Performs quality assurance checks on mechanical electrical hydraulic and pneumatic systems sub-systems contractor inspections and body repairs conducted by contractors on a variety of vehicles for Conventional Mobility Plus and Bus Rapid Transit to ensure compliance to MTO requirements and OEM mandated maintenance programs to ensure the vehicle is properly maintained.
Inspects and assesses condition of structural components on vehicles and assists in the preparation of tender documents for repair of equipment.
Develops preventative maintenance procedures and inspection check sheets for scheduled legislated and seasonal inspections for vehicle fleet types and develops quality assurance programs to outline the process for measurement evaluation and tracking sheets for approval by management.
Receives and analyzes various reports on a daily monthly and annual basis and calculates compliance to performance based contract measures related to fleet items.
Participates in the research testing and evaluation of new vehicle products and technologies including emission reduction devices alternative fuels fare technology video surveillance etc.
Responds to major accidents involving transit vehicles assesses the mechanical fitness and subsequently reviews maintenance documentation of involved transit vehicle.
Liaises with Contractor management staff to identify and rectify deficiencies including mechanical repairs lack or improper documentation and report findings to Fleet Supervisor.
Performs other duties as assigned to meet Branch and Departmental objectives.

WHAT WERE LOOKING FOR

Successful completion of a two-year Community College Diploma in a technical discipline or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum five (5) years experience in the repair and maintenance of airbrake equipped transit buses or highway coaches.
Valid CZ Ontario Drivers license in good standing and reliable vehicle to use on corporate business.
Valid Ontario Class 310T (Truck and Coach) and must hold Certificate of Qualifications and valid membership in the Ontario College of Trades and Apprentices.
Comprehensive knowledge of transit equipment including electronic fare boxes destination signs communications equipment and GPS technology.
Familiarity with hybrid and/or electric battery bus systems.
Comprehensive knowledge of and ability to diagnose and correct failures in electrical electronic and/or mechanical hydraulic and pneumatic systems and components utilized on transit vehicles.
Knowledge of applicable legislated requirements for operation and maintenance of transit vehicles and infrastructure of maintenance sites (e.g. Provincial Vehicle Safety Certification Highway Traffic Act Occupational Health and Safety Commercial Vehicle Operation Registry WHMIS etc.).
Knowledge and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including communication innovation teamwork and collaboration and personal ownership.
Demonstrated time management/organizational skills to set priorities and meet required deadlines.
Computer literacy utilizing MS Office software applications as well as Fleet Maintenance/Record programs and Internet access.
Ability to diagnose vehicle malfunctions and identify deficiencies in vehicle components performance or quality of repair service or preventative maintenance work performance.
Excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with outside contacts.
Physical stamina and ability to withstand lifting of tools and equipment sitting stretching and bending standing walking occasional climbing and work in all weather conditions including exposure to industrial workplace garage/shop conditions.
Ability to travel to offsite locations and work outside regular business hours including weekends and holidays as required.
