Job Summary

Position: Curriculum Director - English Language Arts/ Social Studies

Organizational Scope:

The Curriculum Director for English Language Arts and Social Studies will work in the Department of Teaching and Learning. The Curriculum Director will have strong interpersonal skills an ability and willingness to share expertise with other staff members and an ability and willingness to attain thorough knowledge of the district culture staff practices policies and procedures.

The Curriculum Director will possess a strong humanities background with deep content knowledge in English Language Arts and Social Studies and an understanding of how these disciplines connect to support well-rounded student learning. They will demonstrate expertise in working with adult learners including facilitating professional learning that is relevant and responsive to educator needs. They will have a strong working knowledge of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and its application across the curriculum with the ability to support staff in using data to identify student needs and align instructional resources accordingly. The Curriculum Director will also bring a deep understanding of Early Literacy development and a commitment to evidence-based practices in foundational reading aligned with the science of reading.

Responsibilities:

  • The ELA/SS Curriculum Director will coordinate and implement in conjunction with the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning best practices in:
    • Curriculum instruction and assessment
    • Diversity equity inclusion and belonging
    • Social and emotional learning competencies
    • Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) frameworks and implementation
    • Evidence-based practices in foundational reading reading and writing within and across the content areas and inquiry-based instruction for Social Studies
  • Coordinate the development and implementation of local state and national assessments and lead the use of assessment data to inform instruction and drive curriculum adaptations that support learning for all students including but not limited to:
    • MCAS
    • SAT/ACT
    • Universal screening assessments
    • Reading and writing benchmark assessments
    • Other assessments specific to departments/grade levels
    • Reading inventories
    • Civic action projects
  • Coach principals and educators to analyze the results of all assessments to inform instruction and empower those leaders to implement common data teams structures in every department in every school on consistent schedules;
  • Prepare deliver and/or arrange staff development in ELA and social studies content and instruction;
  • Coach teachers in their classrooms make recommendations for instruction to ensure instructional best practices and support teachers in the implementation of strong ELA/SS programs;
  • Attend grade level and department wide meetings and lead district ELA and History/Social Science committees;
  • The omission of specific duties here does not exclude them from the positions responsibilities if the work is similar related or a logical assignment to the position.

Job Qualifications & Physical Demands:

  • Candidates are required to be a DESE licensed teacher and hold an Administrator Supervisor/Director License in the appropriate content area.
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and possess a high level of capability with technology.
  • The candidate should have the ability to make decisions about how to manage and organize their own workload.
  • Must be able to assist in the protection of students and school property assist the principal in fire and other emergency drills as required by law and School Committee policy.

The position is a benefitted position 194 work days salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
