Job Summary
The Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Advanced Practice Provider (APP) functions as an integral member of the multidisciplinary pediatric hematology/oncology care team. The APP provides comprehensive care to infants children adolescents and young adults with benign and malignant hematologic disorders and cancers across inpatient ambulatory and procedural settings.
This role emphasizes clinical excellence collaboration with pediatric hematology/oncology physicians and engagement with patients and families through diagnosis treatment survivorship and end-of-life care when appropriate.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Provide direct patient care for pediatric hematology and oncology patients in inpatient and outpatient settings
Evaluate diagnose treat and manage patients with: - Leukemia and lymphoma
o Leukemia and lymphoma
o Solid tumors
o Benign hematologic disorders (e.g. sickle cell disease hemophilia
ITP anemia)
o Vascular malformations
Perform comprehensive history and physical examination
Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans in collaboration with supervising physicians
Order interpret and follow up on diagnostic tests (labs imaging pathology)
Prescribe medications chemotherapy (per institutional policy) blood products and supportive therapies
Participate in rounds interdisciplinary care conferences and tumor boards
Shift expectations
40 hours/wk 10 hours shift with variable weekends.
Mix of inpatient and outpatient responsibilities
Qualifications
Required
Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) program
Current or eligible Michigan licensure
National certification (Pediatric NP Acute Care PNP Family NP or PA-C)
Current BLS and PALS certification
Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary pediatric specialty team
Preferred
Prior pediatric hematology/oncology experience or strong pediatric inpatient/outpatient experience
Experience in an academic or tertiary pediatric medical center
Procedural experience relevant to pediatric hematology/oncology
