Job Title: English as a Second Language (ESL) Instructor
Job Status: Full-time
Job Summary: Under limited supervision the English as a Second Language (ESL) Instructor uses intermediate skills obtained through experience and training to educate adults in which English is not their primary language of the verbal and written skills needed. Follows established procedures to perform routine tasks and receives general guidance and direction to perform a variety of non-routine tasks with limited decision-making responsibility. Resolves most questions and problems refers unusual issues to a higher level. Routine contact with internal and external customers as required to obtain clarify or provide facts and information.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Create and execute daily lesson plans based on textbook curriculum
- Provide supplemental learning material based on students needs
- Administer assessments and evaluations adhering to the CASAS standards
- Collect and maintain up to date student contact and academic information
- Manage routine administrative functions of the classroom including recording daily attendance enforcing attendance policy collecting assignments and contacting absent students to encourage their return to class
- Create and provide progress reports and report cards at required intervals
- Hold regular office hours to be available for student questions and assistance
- Maintain student waiting list
- Maintain currency in ESL education techniques targeted toward adult learners
- Operate standard office equipment and use required software applications
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
- Principles methods and techniques of adult learning
- Individual and group behavior
Skill in:
- Design and delivery of lesson plans targeted to adult learners
- Operating standard office equipment and using required software applications for program area and other applications including Microsoft Office
Ability to:
- Organize and develop instructional material and present information and material in an interesting and challenging manner
- Organize and maintain records and appropriate documentation
- Evaluate individual and/or group instructional needs
- Communicate sufficiently to teach adults
- Maintain proficiency in subject matter taught
- Partner with other functional areas to accomplish objectives
- Incite enthusiasm and influence motivate and persuade others to achieve desired outcomes
- Speak and write in English
- Interpret speak and write in Arabic/Spanish or language of predominant service population preferred
Educational/Previous Experience Requirements:
- Minimum Degree Required:
- Associate degree
- Required Disciplines:
- Education (preferred) Business Finance or a related field
and
- At least one year of teaching experience or 2 plus years as a teaching assistant required
- Any equivalent combination of experience education and/or training approved by Human Resources

Hours: Normal business hours some additional hours may be required including evenings and weekends
