Senior Manager Tax Controversy
The opportunity
As a Senior Manager in our Tax Controversy Practice you will advise clients on a broad range of tax matters with a focus on the technical and tactical management of revenue authority engagement and dispute prevention and resolution. You will also have the chance to shape and drive your career through our comprehensive development programs to help you be the best version of yourself both inside and outside of work. This is a hybrid position based in Naarm Melbourne or Warrang - Sydney. Our roles can potentially be adjusted to work flexibly with reduced hours. Please speak with us about potential options.
Your key responsibilities
- Advise a diverse range of clients including ASX listed multinational organisations and high-net-worth individuals on their interactions with the ATO and state revenue authorities.
- Drive the management of ATO reviews and audits.
- Research and form views on a broad range of tax technical and tax administration matters.
- Manage dispute resolution processes both formal litigation and alternative dispute resolution.
- Build and maintain client relationships.
- Draft documents and correspondence including objections private binding ruling requests responses to position papers requests for amended assessments and submissions in relation to penalties and interest.
- Mentor junior team members
- Collaborate with partners and staff across different geographies and teams to maintain connectivity and visibility.

Skills and attributes for success
- Law degree and admission to practice law in Australia with 6 years PQE
- Strong tax technical and legal research skills
- Capability to rapidly grasp and apply new technical issues
- Ability to write articulately and persuasively
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work with a number of different clients and internal stakeholders on multiple deadlines

- Experience in tax advisory or tax controversy in a Big 4 firm law firm or similar environment
- Problem solving abilities and a focus on solutions
- Willingness to learn and become involved in a range of different types of work
