Description of Work

Salary Range: $37377 - $65408 Salary Grade Range: NC07

This position is located in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina at Mountain View Correctional Institution in Avery County. Mountain View is a medium custody male facility that houses approximately 908 offenders. We offer a variety of educational classes and programs to promote offender rehabilitation.


Reporting to a Correctional Programs Supervisor this position is responsible for carrying a caseload of offenders conducting initial assessments of offender needs developing case plans answering and following up on offender questions and problems and making recommendations to the classification committee. Job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Key Duties Include:

Staying up to date on policies and procedures of prisons

Maintaining a case load of offenders providing supportive counseling

Interview offenders to gather and evaluate information concerning their past experience training attitude social environment and mental capabilities

Working with individuals from the community and other public and private programs on services that may be available for offenders

Supervising various programs within the framework of policies and procedures

Effectively communicate both orally and in writing

  • Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Produce a negative drug screening result
  • Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
  • Possess a valid drivers license

About the Division of Institutions:

The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum medium close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety security and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff program facilitators and administrative personnel.
