Position Overview
We are currently seeking acompassionate and experienced Companion Caregiverto support an elderly individual living withdementia in a long-term care facility.
This role is centered oncompanionship emotional support and gentle guidance helping the client maintain their independence while ensuring safety and well-being.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide companionship and emotional support while spending time with the client at their long-term care facility
- Engage the client inmeaningful enjoyable activities(conversation walks hobbies etc.)
- Support daily routines in arespectful non-intrusive manner
- Assist with light tasks as needed (reminders organization etc.)
- Monitor mood behaviour and overall well-being
Dementia Care Expectations
The ideal candidate must havehands-on experience supporting individuals with dementiaand understand the following:
- Ability to managemood fluctuations and behavioural changeswith patience and empathy
- Comfort supporting individuals who mayresist care due to a strong sense of independence
- Skilled in usinggentle persuasive communication techniquesrather than directive or forceful approaches
- Ability toposition suggestions as choices or invitations not demands
Effective dementia care requirescalm respectful and person-centred communication adapting to changing moods and abilities while preserving dignity
Requirements
- Proven experience working withclients living with dementia
- ValidFirst Aid & CPR certification
- Vulnerable Sector Check (completed within the last 6 months)
- Up-to-date immunization records including:
- Negative TB test
- Diphtheria & Tetanus
- MMR (Measles Mumps Rubella)
- Varicella / Zoster
- Hepatitis B
WHMIS certification (Can be completed after hiring if not currently obtained)
