We are seeking a Resident Adviser Kaitohutohu Wharenoho (RA) to join our passionate supportive and motivated team in our Waipārūrū Halls of residence.
The role of a Resident Adviser Kaitohutohu Wharenoho is as a leader and resource for our residents within the community focusing on community development being a referral agent and a peer support with the primary purpose of creating a sense of belonging. We know that having a good RA can make a huge difference to a students University experience and our RA team are an integral part of the residential experience delivering support to the wellbeing and success of our residents.
Resident Advisers support Accommodations commitment to creating inclusive communities adhering to the universitys code of conduct the Residential Rules and incorporating the vision of Taumata Teitei & Nga Wharenoho Kaupapa into the role. Our RAs role model behaviours we seek to encourage in all of our residents: being engaged kind empathetic and solution orientated respectful and accepting and encouraging healthy connections.
The primary goal of the RA is the development of an environment conducive to the personal and academic growth of all residents.
Reporting to the Resident Manager/Resident Coordinator the position is part-time live-in and fixed-term. This role is due to run until 21 November 2026. The role pays $29 per hour.

As a Resident Adviser Kaitohutohu Wharenoho you will:
- Support students in their residence to make their time productive meaningful and enjoyable
- Nurture the development of both academic achievement and life skills
- Be a people person with good communication skills who builds a strong sense of community in their residence
- Be a positive role model
Applications are invited from students who are enrolled in a full-time course of study at The University of Auckland. The successful appointees will be required to live in the accommodation allocated to them and fulfil their responsibilities for the full period of their contract which falls beyond the academic year.
Therefore our successful applicants will meet the below requirements:
- Is currently enrolled at the University of Auckland in 2026 as a full time student
- Has a high level of academic and personal achievement
- Is responsible approachable with a can do attitude
- Understands the importance of adhering to role expectations and responsibilities
- Has good communication skills - both verbal and written
- Is happy to live-in (onsite) at the hall/residence you are appointed to and pay accommodation
- Can fulfil the entire period of the employment agreement
