The Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) works across the University to build innovative and entrepreneurial capability in students and staff. Through our programmes communities and spaces we support people to explore ideas develop ventures and build the confidence to create impact.

We are now looking for someone to play a key role within our Makerspace and prototyping environment as a Technology and Prototyping Adviser.

This role sits at the heart of CIEs prototyping capability. You will work alongside students researchers and staff as they develop ideas create prototypes and build confidence working with technology and making. Youll contribute to the day-to-day operation of the Makerspace while supporting how it continues to evolve - including tools systems and ways of working that enable experimentation and hands-on learning.

The role spans hands-on technical support workshop and activity delivery and working directly with individuals and teams developing early-stage concepts creative projects and venture ideas. Youll collaborate with colleagues across CIE programmes and the wider University.

Were looking for someone who can step into an established environment quickly build confidence with tools and processes and contribute from early on.

This is a full-time(37.5 hours per week) permanent position. 
The remuneration range for this role is $78601 - $90700 depending on skills and experience.

Unleash Space is our makerspace and innovation hub providing access to tools equipment and learning experiences that support prototyping experimentation and early-stage idea development.
 

He kōrero mōu About you

You enjoy working at the intersection of creativity technology and learning and are motivated by helping others turn ideas into something tangible.

You bring practical hands-on experience with making prototyping or working with technology and are confident applying this in a way that supports others. Youre comfortable explaining technical concepts to non-technical audiences and enjoy creating environments where people feel confident to try test and learn.

Youll bring a proactive and adaptable approach with the ability to pick up tools systems and ways of working quickly and contribute within an established environment.

Experience shaping or developing makerspaces labs or similar environments - whether through tools processes or ways of working - would be highly valued.

Familiarity with tertiary or structured learning environments and an understanding of how people learn through doing will help you succeed in this role.

  • Practical experience with prototyping making or working with tools and technologies
  • Ability to support others to learn through hands-on applied experiences
  • Confidence learning and applying new tools technologies and processes
  • Strong communication skills particularly with non-technical audiences
  • A proactive problem-solving mindset and ability to manage a range of activities

Experience in one or more of the following is beneficial:

  • Digital fabrication (e.g. 3D printing laser cutting CNC)
  • Physical fabrication (e.g. woodworking electronics basic mechanical work)
  • CAD or design software
  • Programming or digital technologies
  • Emerging technologies such as VR/AR
