Residential & Data Center Technician / Coordinator (Financial Services Sector Support)

Job Summary:

The Residential & Data Center Technician / Coordinator is responsible for the installation maintenance coordination and automation of structured cabling and IT infrastructure across residential and data center environments. This role combines technical expertise with project coordination and automation support using scripting tools such as Python. The position supports clients in the financial services sector where system reliability operational efficiency and compliance are critical. The role ensures that all work adheres to industry standards company procedures and financial institution governance requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical Installation & Maintenance

  • Install terminate test and label copper (Cat5e Cat6 Cat6A) and fiber optic cabling systems in residential office and data center environments.

  • Execute rack and stack activities including the physical installation of servers network switches routers and related IT equipment.

  • Perform hardware refresh structured cabling upgrades and patching activities as part of ongoing service improvements.

  • Troubleshoot cabling network and hardware connectivity issues using proper diagnostic tools.

  • Conduct site surveys prepare documentation and ensure installations comply with standards (EIA/TIA ISO/IEC).

  • Coordination & Project Management

  • Coordinate daily project activities with data center operations project managers and service delivery teams to meet SLAs and milestones.

  • Liaise with clients in the financial services sector to plan and execute installation or maintenance work with minimal disruption to business operations.

  • Prepare status reports maintain installation records and ensure audit compliance documentation is up to date.

  • Manage work orders logistics and material movement across multiple project sites.

  • Automation & Process Improvement

  • Develop and maintain Python or shell-based automation scripts to streamline repetitive coordination or reporting tasks.

  • Leverage automation tools to monitor installation progress generate reports or validate equipment inventory.

  • Collaborate with the IT automation or operations team to integrate monitoring and reporting scripts into the company workflow.

  • Identify opportunities to improve service efficiency and data accuracy using automation and digital tools.

  • Quality Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure all work complies with financial institution security policies change management and access control procedures.

  • Maintain high accuracy of project and cabling documentation for regulatory audits.

  • Follow safety standards and promote best practices in all installation and maintenance activities.

Qualifications and Skills:

Diploma or certification in Telecommunications Electrical Engineering Information Technology or a related field.
36 years of experience in structured cabling hardware installation or data center operations.
Experience coordinating technical projects and managing tasks for financial services clients.
Hands-on experience in automation scripting using Python PowerShell or shell scripting.
Knowledge of structured cabling standards (EIA/TIA-) and data center infrastructure best practices.
Skilled in cable testing documentation and troubleshooting using tools such as Fluke or OTDR.
Strong analytical organizational and client communication skills.
Understanding of LAN/WAN fundamentals IP networking and IT infrastructure components.
Physically fit for rack and stack or cabling work in confined spaces.
Valid drivers license and willingness to travel to residential and data center sites.

Preferred Certifications (Optional):

BICSI Technician or Installer Certification
Fiber Optic Association (FOA) or equivalent
CompTIA Network or equivalent
Python Programming or Automation Certification
Data Center Cabling Specialist (DCCS)
Workplace Safety / OSHA Certification

Work Environment:

Work split between residential customer sites and secure financial institution data centers.
Frequent coordination with operations teams vendors and financial clients requiring confidentiality and precision.
May require occasional after-hours or weekend work to accommodate financial system change windows.
Involves travel between project sites customer offices and data centers.
