Your role and responsibilities
- Identifying intelligence gaps and applying intelligence-gathering and analytical techniques to interpret information from a wide range of sources including financial intelligence.
- Producing high-quality intelligence products in line with agreed methodologies including tactical intelligence where required.
- Developing and maintaining a broad range of open and closed intelligence sources.
- Supporting the teams collective responsibilities including Organised Crime Group Mapping and Flagging Police National Database checks and data entry and Serious and Organised Crime tasking.
- Participating in operational activity including intelligence collection during enforcement activity.
- Maintaining accurate and detailed records to support statistical reporting ensuring compliance with data protection legislation and criminal investigation requirements.
- Preparing and presenting educational and promotional materials and occasionally delivering training to colleagues and partner agencies.
- Liaising effectively with partners across regulatory statutory voluntary and business sectors including Trading Standards services Local and Regional Intelligence Units and Regional Investigation Teams.
You will need
- A high standard of learning in research and/or analytical techniques ideally supported by a degree or equivalent vocational qualification or relevant experience.
- Strong analytical and research skills with the ability to identify intelligence gaps and make informed decisions or recommendations.
- Knowledge of consumer protection enforcement and detriment particularly in relation to Trading Standards activity.
- An understanding of police national data systems including the Police National Computer (PNC) and Police National Database (PND).
- Working knowledge of serious and organised crime including Organised Crime Group Mapping SOC system tasking and national flagging processes.
- A commitment to ongoing professional development and maintaining competence in relevant legislative and operational areas.

The team
The National Trading Standards Intelligence Team hosted by Suffolk County Council plays a central role in developing and promoting intelligence-led working across local authority Trading Standards services. The team provides specialist expertise to identify and analyse national trends and emerging threats supporting tasking and prioritisation at national regional and local levels.
We help record develop and analyse intelligence monitor trends and identify key risks and threats to enable targeted enforcement against criminal activity. The team also acts as the single point of contact for all Police National Databaserelated enquiries across England and Wales.
