Job Summary:
The Unit Clerk provides front-line administrative and clerical support to ensure efficient patient admissions transfers and discharges. This role is vital in maintaining the daily activities of the Inpatient Unit while upholding hospital policies and confidentiality standards.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs receptionist and clerical duties to assist the health care team in providing quality patient care.
- Utilizes the computer extensively.
- Greet assists and/or redirects visitors patients physicians employees and the public in a courteous and professional manner.
- Respond promptly to all individuals seeking information.
- Answer and direct phone calls to appropriate departments or staff.
- Manage incoming and outgoing correspondence faxes and emails related to patient care.
- Responsible for initiating updating and maintaining patient information in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system and physical chart.
- Coordinates activities to maintain an organized and efficient department.
- Maintains daily inventory of designated office and patient supplies.
- Posts daily patient charges to the hospital system with accuracy and efficiency.
- Comply with HIPAA privacy laws.
- Presents self in a professional manner including appearance tone of voice eye contact and body language that models KSSH vision/mission/values.
- Models a commitment to the organizations vision/mission/values by assisting in keeping and being a positive attitude within the Inpatient Unit and between departments.
- Remains knowledgeable of and follows the policies of the Hospital.
- Actively protects self by following OSHA and other standards reviewed in annual training.
- Keeps Charge Nurse on duty apprised of day-to-day situations and communicates unusual or emergent situations in a timely manner.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Education and Ability:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) is required within 60 days of hire.
- Excellent communication organization and multitasking skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Professional customer service skills and compassionate demeanor required.
- Prior clerical or administrative experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
- Previous experience with Windows based computer software
Environmental and Physical Requirements:
The employee works in a temperature-controlled environment. Employees should be able to lift to 50 pounds using proper lifting technique several times during their may transport patients via cart or wheelchair using a push/pull force of 30 lbs as much as 20 times per day. Bending stooping and reaching as much as 200 times per day. There is potential for contact with chemicals blood borne pathogens and exposure to infectious must be able to see read and write.
