Discovery College is searching for an experienced educator to fill the full-time Primary Teacher with Arts Specialism (Drama & Theatre) position (starting Aug 2026). This role will be on a one-year finite contract.


Job Summary

The main role of the the Primary Teacher with Arts Specialism (Drama & Theatre) is to maximise student learning and development by planning preparing and teaching drama as both a discrete subject and an integrated component of the Primary Years Programme (PYP). The teacher will meet students individual learning needs while achieving specific student outcomes and promoting creativity collaboration and critical thinking through drama.


Responsibilities

  • Use own professional role to ensure that the College is able to deliver on the 5 DC Outcomes for every student
  • Plan lessons and sequences of lessons some of which are integrated (to meet students individual learning needs and to ensure students progression).
  • Usea range of appropriate strategies for teaching and learning and classroom management
  • Useflexible groupings and structured inquiry to deliver high-quality lessons in line with the IBO philosophy
  • Maintain a well-organised and stimulating learning environment
  • Uselearning technologies to enhance learning
  • Useinformation about prior attainment to set expectations for students
  • Usea range of assessment and reporting methods that show students achievement in relation to learning outcomes
  • Provideclear and constructive feedback to students and their parents and caregivers
  • Planand engagein professional learning activities that support school and systematic priorities
  • Takeresponsibility for own professional development and use the outcomes to improve teaching and students learning
  • Makean active contribution to the policies and aspirations of the school
  • Ensureadministration of classroom procedures is completed efficiently
  • Collaborate with teachers to design and deliver a transdisciplinary programme that integrates drama into the PYP framework.
  • Participate in Quality Assurance and School Improvement in order to ensure high standards of professional practice and student outcomes
  • Utilise the Professional Reflection and Development process to ensure own professional development and support for organisational priorities
  • Contribute to the wider life of the College including through the co-curricular programme and offsite activities
  • Support the academic pastoral and co-curricular work of the school
  • As required as a Class Teacher or Learning Advisor provide care and support for students to ensure all students make excellent progress and have the opportunity to flourish
  • Perform other duties which may reasonably be assigned from time to time by the Principal or his/her delegate


Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Education orBachelors Degree in any subjects with PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate of Education) or equivalent
  • An understanding of the IB and the key underpinnings of the curriculum frameworks is essential
