Summary

The Board and Government Relations Associate manages key relationships across the museums nonprofit Board and public stakeholders ensuring high-level governance and the successful pursuit of public support.

Responsibilities

Government Relations - 50%

  • Serve as a liaison to City State and Federal agencies
  • Represent the museum at community board CIG and other community-based meetings and events
  • Coordinate meetings or site visits for elected officials in coordination with museum lobbyists.
  • Manage the public funding process including identifying funding opportunities drafting proposals in coordination with institutional giving team managing submissions and reporting across various government platforms.
  • Draft briefings talking points testimony and one-pagers to provide elected officials and government agencies about MoMA PS1s programs initiatives and partnership opportunities.
  • Maintain database of elected officials staffers and community leaders up to date and lead regular outreach to keep them connected to the museum.

Board Governance - 25%

  • Lead the execution of all Board and Committee meetings: manage scheduling draft agendas and advance materials and coordinate with General Counsel on formal record-keeping.
  • Support incoming Board requests and coordinate the drafting production and execution of communications to Board members.

Administrative Support - 25%

  • Provide administrative assistance to the Chief of External Affairs and the Communications & Audience Strategy team including calendar management expense reporting and general departmental coordination.
  • Provide additional administrative and project management support as needed.

Qualifications

  • At least two years of work experience in nonprofit administration government affairs or public policy.
  • Strategic and detail-oriented with a proven ability to navigate complex political environments and manage strict compliance deadlines.
  • Exceptional writing skills with the ability to synthesize complex policy or institutional information for public audiences.
  • Ability to work independently execute at a high level and adapt to a fast-paced environment while balancing individual priorities with a collaborative approach to shared decision-making and responsibility.
  • Exceptional judgment professionalism and discretion in handling confidential and sensitive situations and matters.
  • Ability to participate in events during evenings and weekends.
  • Passion for and understanding of PS1s mission and program and the contemporary art ecosystem.
  • Ability to speak one of the top five (5) languages spoken in Queens NY (Spanish Chinese Bengali Korean Russian) is an asset.
