Job Summary

THE SELECTED CANDIDATE WILL BE OFFERED A SALARY OF $19.50 PER HOUR.

The Administration for Childrens Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages community-based supports and foster care services and provides subsidized childcare vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child juvenile justice ACS oversees detention placement and programs for youth in the community.

The Office of Human Resources holds a broad spectrum of responsibilities that contribute directly to ACS vision of offering comprehensive quality services that empower children and families to thrive. ACS Office of Human Resources primary functions include developing and implementing the agencys human resources policies and procedures recruiting and hiring qualified candidates for open positions providing onboarding and training to new employees managing employee performance and compensation and ensuring compliance with all applicable employment civil service and labor addition to our primary functions the Office of Human Resources provides a variety of other services to employees such as career development employee benefits and wellness programs. The Office of Human Resources also works in partnership with divisions to provide initiatives and services that nurture and develop an environment of employee empowerment advocacy and involvement in the organization while attracting and cultivating a diverse dynamic workforce.

Within OHR the Internship Programming & Special Projects (IP&SP) team supports ACS mission by offering enriching internship learning experiences that provide opportunities to explore the very heart of NYC government so that every intern walks away with new knowledge a stronger sense of direction and a lasting connection to the ACS mission. Additionally IP&SP supports the Assistant Commissioner of Recruitment & Retention with special projects surrounding recruitment retention and succession planning efforts.

OHR is seeking an energetic individual to serve as an Internship Programming & Special Projects Undergraduate Intern to join our team.

As an HR Internship Programming & Special Projects Undergraduate Intern you will support our team in day-to-day operations and contribute to long-term projects aimed at improving intern engagement and organizational effectiveness. This internship offers an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to various aspects of human resources including recruitment communications and engagement professional development talent acquisition professional development retention and succession planning. Additionally as a member of the 2026 ACS Summer Internship Program cohort you will participate in an enrichment program designed to fully engage students into the ACS and NYC government experience. Internship programming includes professional development workshops lunch and learns speaker events NYC government tours and networking opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

- Assist with planning developing and implementing the Summer Internship Program and related early career programs
- Assist with organizing workshops seminars experience tours and other events to enhance the professional growth of interns and early career professionals
- Assist with creating and distributing surveys and collecting and reviewing ongoing feedback in efforts to implement continuous improvement initiatives
- Assist with compiling and analyzing HR data and developing various reports via Microsoft Excel and PowerBI to support recruitment retention and succession planning efforts
- Assist with coordinating special projects ensuring they are clearly defined well-managed and completed on time

Learning Outcomes:

- Gain comprehensive knowledge of HR operations and program management in a government setting
- Develop skills in managing engagement and communications programs
- Enhance abilities in coordinating and executing data analyses and reports in a civil service environment to support recruitment retention and succession planning efforts

Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Business Administration Data Analytics Statistics Information Science/Systems or related field of study

Preferred Skills:

- A strong work ethic paired with a serious creative drive
- The willingness to support a diverse and busy staff while contributing to collective innovation
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word Outlook PowerPoint PowerBI Visio SharePoint etc.)
- Proficiency in Python R Studio preferred but not required

Qualifications :

As of June of the Program year the prospective intern must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).
NOTE: Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program June - August each year.
