Middle School Associate Principal
Position Summary
The primary role of the Middle SchoolAssociate principal is to support the lead principal in providing instructional leadership and school management with a focus on improving student achievement and ensuring the health safety and well-being of all students and staff. The associate principal assists in implementing high-quality instructional practices monitoring academic progress developing and managing the master schedule managing daily school operations fostering a positive school culture and supporting staff development. They build strong relationships with students families staff and the community while helping to maintain an organized safe and inclusive learning environment.

Minimum Qualifications:
Experience:
- A minimum of five years of successful teaching experience in a secondary setting is preferred.
Education:
- Masters degree in Education Education Administration or related field.
- Iowa Professional Administrative license by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners (BOEE).
Required Skills:
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with students staff families and community partners.
- Effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to convey expectations provide feedback and support consistent messaging across the school.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills with the ability to address sensitive or complex situations in a fair timely and professional manner.
- Ability to collaborate closely with the principal while providing leadership and support to teachers staff and school-wide initiatives.
- Strong organizational time-management and follow-through skills with the ability to coordinate multiple priorities and operational needs.
- Adaptability and resilience maintaining composure and sound judgment when responding to changing demands student needs or unexpected challenges.
- Commitment to fostering a positive inclusive and supportive school culture that reflects high expectations for students and staff.
- Ability to motivate coach and support staff to strengthen instructional practices student engagement and continuous improvement efforts.

Essential Functions
Instructional Leadership
- In collaboration with building leadership contributes to the overall leadership and management of instructional programs and the school environment.
- Assists the principal in coordinating the work of school staff and district program leaders to develop and implement instructional programs and teaching practices.
- Assists the principal in ensuring district curriculum instructional models and assessments are implemented with fidelity.
- Supervises monitors coaches and evaluates licensed and classified staff with a focus on professionalism growth and continuous improvement.
- Assists the principal with professional development of teachers and staff including regular supervision and evaluations.
- Provides coherent support services and accommodations to meet the needs of students.
School Operations & Safety
- Assists the principal in managing organizational systems and resources for a safe high-performing learning environment.
- Assists the principal with hiring onboarding and assigning classified and hourly staff to support effective school operations.
- Supports the development and management of the master schedule to ensure efficient operations appropriate staffing and alignment to instructional priorities.
- Regularly inspects facilities and brings maintenance and cleaning issues to the attention of the head custodian.
- Assists the principal in upholding developing and maintaining the student handbook.
Student Support & Compliance
- Ensures compliance and alignment of special education programming English Learning programming 504s and other essential educational programs.
- Confers with parents and staff to discuss educational activities policies and student behavioral or learning issues.
Community & Family Engagement
- Collaborates with families and stakeholders who represent community interests and needs; mobilizes community resources that support and improve teaching and learning.
- Promotes a positive tone for collaborative school/community relations by articulating the mission seeking community support and fostering rapport with all stakeholders.
Attendance & Reliability
- Demonstrates consistent and reliable attendance to ensure uninterrupted support for students staff and school operations.
- Maintains a dependable schedule modeling punctuality professionalism and commitment to the school community.
- Plans and coordinates coverage for school functions and staff responsibilities during absences or peak periods.
School Culture & Collaboration
- Fosters an environment where students staff and faculty work cooperatively together.
Other Functions
- Participate in staff development training programs faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
- Provide excellent customer service and assistance to all employees fostering a welcoming and approachable atmosphere.
- Uphold integrity and maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Demonstrate initiative and the ability to work without close supervision.
- Collaborate effectively with all school personnel maintaining positive and productive communication.
- Adhere to safety protocols and policies established by the Ankeny Community School District to ensure the safety of oneself and others.
- Support District goals and objectives while adhering to all District policies contributing to the overall success of the school community.
- Demonstrate regular and dependable attendance to ensure smooth District operations.
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to support district events or urgent situations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Working Environment
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
The usual and customary methods of performing the position functions require the following physical demands: lifting carrying pushing pulling climbing reaching driving standing and walking. Working conditions may include extreme temperatures and humidity. Hazards may include exposure to communicable diseases. This position requires one to maintain emotional control under stress.
