Job Summary

Job Title: School Psychologist Intern/Trainee Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Reports to: Special Education Coordinator Pay Grade: Admin Pay 4

Dept. /School: Assigned Campus Days: 197

Supervises: N/A

Primary Purpose: To evaluate students referred for Special Education to determine appropriate eligibility and services.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • To be eligible to practice as a School Psychology Intern/Trainee: An unlicensed individual may provide psychological services under supervision in the public schools if:
  1. the individual is enrolled in an internship practicum or other site-based training in a psychology program in a regionally accredited institution of higher education; or
  2. the individual has completed an internship that meets the requirements of this rule and has submitted an application for licensure as a School Psychologist to the Council that has not been denied or returned; or
  3. the individual has been issued a trainee status letter. (A copy of the letter is required)
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate

Special Knowledge Skills:

  • Basic knowledge of administering and interpreting psychological intelligence and achievement assessments.
  • Basic knowledge of behavior intervention and counseling services
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work compatibly within the multidisciplinary team concept

Experience:

  • Interns are required to be involved in a Masters Degree Program for psychology and enrolled in a supervision course
  • School Psychologist licensure requires 1200 hours of internship. Experience will be acquired onsite with a school psychologist

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Administer approved psychological achievement and intelligence measures using instruments and procedures approved by the district
  • Provide written comprehensive evaluation reports and recommendations for students referred for Emotional Disturbance Autism and/or other disabilities.
  • Manage a system of comprehensive psychological assessments in accordance with rules and regulations mandated by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists and TEA.
  • Provide interpretation of diagnostic findings to parents and to appropriate school personnel for implementation of the IEP
  • Serve in a consultative role with designated personnel to offer intervention strategies related to learning student behavioral problems and counseling assessments
  • Maintain case records on all referred students.
  • Maintain confidential eligibility records accurately and within timelines.
  • Ensure that the legal files contain required documentation for monitoring and any other court requested purposes.
  • Assist Special Education leadership in working with teachers and parents whenever necessary regarding students with behavioral and/or social-emotional difficulties.
  • Work collaboratively and under the supervision of an assigned LSSP
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with teaching staff counselors and administrators.
  • Consult with special education teachers and other special education staff members.
  • Plan interventions.
  • Conduct/Attend ARD meetings concerning placement of students and the development of the IEP.
  • Serve as a member of the Annual Review Committee for reviewing progress of each individual student.
  • Work with ECISD attorney in preparation for ARD meetings and other legal proceedings including advocacy groups and/or other legal representatives.
  • Review records for transfer students and make recommendations regarding eligibility placement and services.
  • Cooperate with personnel of community health and social welfare agencies and make appropriate referrals.
  • Maintain records for purpose of Medicaid reimbursement.
  • Attend staff professional and interagency meetings.
  • Complete required Texas State Board of Examiners continuing education hours.
  • Provide professional development for general and special education staff.
  • Stay current on all federal and state and local special education guidelines.
  • Disseminate information regarding current laws and court cases that change special education practices (to multidisciplinary team members).
  • Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Special Education.
