Job Summary
Position Summary:
The Business Intelligence (BI) Architect is responsible for designing and delivering analytics content that supports clinical financial operational and administrative reporting needs. The BI Architect partners with data engineering analytics application owners and business stakeholders to ensure the delivery of scalable secure and high-performing analytics solutions in Power BI that align with organizational goals and compliance requirements.
This position is eligible for remote work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy work arrangements will be reviewed annually and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location.
Position Responsibilities:
Power BI Architecture and Governance
Architect and maintain the enterprise-wide Power BI environment including scalable workspace structures standardized naming conventions and robust deployment pipelines to support agile report delivery and ongoing development.
Define and enforce governance policies around certified content data source connections gateway configuration and dataset refresh schedules.
Manage and optimize Microsoft Fabric capacities proactively monitoring utilization workload distribution and scaling requirements to support performance and growth.
Establish repeatable processes for app deployment workspace lifecycle management version control and metadata publishing to support both central IT teams and decentralized report developers.
Drive adoption of modern Power BI and Fabric features by aligning architectural decisions with the enterprise analytics strategy and Microsofts roadmap including integration with Direct Lake OneLake and Real-Time Intelligence.
Enterprise Semantic Model Architecture
Design and implement robust enterprise-grade semantic models using Power BI and Fabric focusing on reusability scalability and alignment with business domains.
Define and uphold modeling standards related to naming conventions folder organization measure logic (DAX) and data categorization to ensure consistency and ease of use across development teams.
Proactively monitor semantic model usage performance metrics and user feedback to identify opportunities for optimization and simplification.
Collaborate with Data Engineering teams to ensure that dataflows lakehouses and data warehouse objects are structured and maintained in ways that support performant semantic modeling.
Establish enterprise-wide semantic modeling strategies that promote certified datasets shared dimensions and efficient connection types (e.g. Direct Lake Import Hybrid) based on business use case performance needs and data latency requirements.
Performance Security and Compliance
Continuously monitor platform health and report performance; diagnose and resolve performance bottlenecks related to inefficient DAX excessive query load or capacity overuse.
Supports audits and data governance initiatives by maintaining accurate data lineage and metadata documentation.
Ensure semantic models align with institutional definitions and enterprise data standards.
Contribute to the development and enforcement of row-level security workspace access roles and least-privilege access models to protect sensitive data while enabling appropriate self-service reporting.
Pay Grade: 5B to commensurate

Education Requirements:
Bachelors degree in Computer Science MIS or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Experience Requirements:
Typically 5-7 years of experience in business intelligence data architecture or enterprise analytics roles
Extensive hands-on experience with Power BI (desktop service semantic models and DAX)
Strong knowledge of healthcare data including clinical financial and operational domains
Advanced SQL skills with the ability to write complex queries and optimize for performance.
Strong proficiency in SQL DAX Power Query (M) and building and tuning semantic models
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Desired Qualifications:
Experience in managing or migrating large-scale BI ecosystems from Tableau or legacy reporting tools
Experience with Power BI DevOps practices including the use of deployment pipelines workspace lifecycle management and version control to support scalable and maintainable BI solutions.
Hands-on experience with Power BI optimization tools such as DAX Studio and Measure Killer with the ability to diagnose and resolve performance issues in complex semantic models.
Experience leveraging Power BI REST APIs PowerShell and Python to automate administrative tasks streamline deployments and enhance data workflows within the Power BI ecosystem.
