Job Title: Coordinator of Science and Innovation
Location: Division Annex
Reports to: Chief Academic Officer
FLSA Status: Exempt
Summary: The Coordinator of Science and Innovation is responsible for providing leadership in the development implementation evaluation and refinement of science and other assigned programs across the division including STEM computer science and engineering. The Coordinator of Science and Innovation is a resource to teachers principals division level colleagues parents and the community. The Coordinator of Science and Innovation provides support directs change efforts and coordinates all science stem computer science and engineering activities across the school division.
Essential Functions
- Collaborates with principals and teachers with the instructional delivery of science instruction and programming
- Oversees the K-12 STEM and computer science curriculum and ensures its alignment with the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) Next Generation Science Standards and ISTE Standards
- Provides leadership to maintain a state-of-the-art engineering program that builds strong pathways for students
- Chairs division committees established to address division instructional needs including the areas of science STEM computer science and engineering
- Coordinates staff development opportunities for division instructional personnel including new teacher induction and follow-up
- Assists PLCs in the analysis of data used to evaluate student achievement as well as curricula and program effectiveness
- Develops funding grants (e.g. state federal and private sources) for the purpose of augmenting the available budget used for science and other areas of innovation in the school division
- Provides leadership in the development implementation and evaluation of curricular resources for the science STEM computer science and engineering programs that are aligned with local state and national standards
- Manages STEM budget and ensures responsible allocation of funds in support of established programmatic objectives
- Keeps abreast of current developments in the areas of curriculum pedagogy and theory related to science STEM computer science and engineering
- Establishes and maintains collaborative partnerships in support of STEM computer science and engineering
- Prepares division and School Board reports
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief Academic Officer

Education and/or Experience
Masters Degree in science or a related field with a Virginia teaching license and at least three years of teaching experience are required. A Virginia administrative license is required.
Physical Conditions and Nature of Work:
The work of the Coordinator of Science and Innovation is typically performed in an office setting primarily using computer office equipment. Frequent travel to schools and occasional state-wide and regional travel is required. Attendance at meetings both during the school day and beyond is required. There is frequent interaction with principals teachers other central office leadership and the public. Other physical activities are required such as but not limited to bending stooping reaching and grasping. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels visual acuity is required for monitoring and determining needs; this position is subject to inside environmental conditions noise and hazards. The job generally requires approximately 80% sitting 10% walking and 10% standing.
