The Environmental Health & Safety Director leads the organizations environmental health and safety compliance efforts and oversees disaster mitigation emergency response and business continuity programs. This role ensures adherence to regulatory requirements and industry best practices while driving initiatives that enhance safety reduce risk and support organizational preparedness. The Director collaborates with cross-functional teams and external agencies to develop innovative strategies that minimize environmental impact and strengthen the organizations ability to prevent respond to and recover from emergencies.Education & Experience
Education and Experience Required:
Bachelors degree and five (5) years of experience in environmental health and safety management including two (2) years of supervisory experience.
Certifications Licenses or Registration required:
FEMA ICS 100 200 and 700 required prior to hire. FEMA E/L/G0300 and E/L/G0400 required post-hire within 180 days. Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (E/L/K0146) required post-hire within 180 days.
Preferred Qualifications:
Professional Engineers registration from the Mississippi State Board for Professional Engineers and Surveyors (MSBPELS). Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) from the International Association of Emergency Managers. Certified Hospital Emergency Professional (CHEP) from the Board for Certification Services and Management. Health Emergency Manager (HEM) certification.

Knowledge of applicable federal state and local laws ordinances statutes regulations rules policies and procedures. Skill in accident/incident investigation and reporting protocols. Responsibilities
- Lead assigned teams by applying effective management practices including communication budgeting scheduling and performance reporting.
- Advise leadership on risk compliance sustainability and safety strategies that support institutional goals.
- Prepare presentations and reports for executive leadership governing boards regulatory bodies and community stakeholders.
- Assist in developing campus policies related to disaster response preparedness mitigation environmental safety and overall campus safety.
- Prepare for and support external audits inspections and surveys related to environmental health fire and life safety and emergency preparedness.
- Develop and implement environmental health and safety policies programs and projects ensuring compliance with federal state and local regulations.
- Provide technical expertise in environmental engineering remediation infrastructure planning and fire and life safety program design.
- Monitor environmental and fire/life safety performance metrics and prepare required reports for leadership and regulatory agencies.
- Collaborate with facilities construction and research teams to integrate environmental fire and life safety best practices into operations and capital projects.
- Develop implement and maintain the institutions Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) including hazard vulnerability assessments emergency response plans and business continuity programs.
- Coordinate and conduct drills exercises and training programs in compliance with CMS and other regulatory requirements.
- Develop specialized emergency annexes for emerging or rapidly evolving threats.
- Support and guide organizational leadership during incidents using the HICS/NIMS framework.
- Serve as a liaison to law enforcement fire services EMS and state health agencies to ensure coordinated emergency response.
- Maintain 24/7 availability for emergency consultation and activation.
