Your Opportunity

The Youth Accommodation Support Services (YASS) provides support assistance and accommodation for young people who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. The service helps vulnerable young people by connecting them to school work vocational training and other support services while assisting them to obtain long-term housing.

As a Residential Youth Worker you will provide holistic care and work within a Trauma-Informed Practice model to support young people living on-site in crisis accommodation. This is an on-site position based in Victoria Park. You will use your knowledge of current youth issues to connect and engage with young people supporting them to progress toward achieving their goals.

YASS operates 24/7 with a two-week rotating roster of 8-hour shifts so you must be available to work day evening overnight and weekend shifts when rostered.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Induct young people into the service advising them of requirements rights and responsibilities.
  • Build positive relationships with young people while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Support young people in understanding their behaviours developing coping strategies and working toward their goals.
  • Provide practical assistance with daily activities including meal preparation personal care hygiene and medication support in line with policies.
  • Manage crisis situations using Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) strategies to de-escalate behaviours and provide appropriate support.
  • Participate in case planning and case conferences alongside the Case Manager to monitor client progress.
  • Facilitate educational groups life skills programs and recreational activities to enhance young peoples development.
  • Maintain accurate documentation case notes and ensure compliance with organisational policies and procedures.

Requirementsfor Success

  • Relevant Youth Work or Community Services qualification minimum Certificate IV (or equivalent experience).
  • Demonstrated experience working with vulnerable young people with complex needs in a residential setting.
  • Strong understanding of issues impacting youth including homelessness mental health and trauma.
  • Knowledge of behaviour management and ability to set boundaries in a residential environment.
  • Understanding of Aboriginal culture and ability to work effectively with Aboriginal young people families and communities.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and proficiency in computer systems.
  • Availability to work a 24/7 rotating roster including nights and weekends.
  • Ability to work flexibly both independently and as part of a diverse team using a solutions-focused approach.
  • Must have First Aid Certificate.
  • Full driver licence with no restrictions.

Before starting work with us you will need to undertake a national police history check qualifications and referee checks and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
