The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Technician will support site environmental health and safety programs and work with existing technical quality and production team members to identify develop and implement EHS program improvements. The successful candidate will work with internal GE EHS professionals outside agencies consultants and vendors on EHS projects.Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and/or lead assigned elements of Health and Safety programs as the business needs. This will include but is not limited to industrial hygiene ergonomics emergency preparedness accident investigation risk assessment etc.
- Support site Environmental programs: Air Water Waste and Chemical Management.
- Implement / modify related EHS policies and procedures to ensure compliance.
- Maintain an in-depth knowledge of existing and proposed regulations.
- Utilize and implement GenSuite tools to manage EHS programs. This will include but is not limited to the LOTO SDS SRA IH.
- Support Management of Change (MOC) process.
- Work closely with site ERT and security teams on training and equipment needs.
- Manage the daily responsibilities of both hazardous/ non-hazardous and recyclable waste. This includes but is not limited to collection labeling storage and preparation for shipment.
- Integrate EHS function with site operations to provide support to all teams while growing the EHS Culture.
- Support the Safety Committee.
- Participate in Accident and Incident Investigations.
- Perform various EHS audits and inspections such as but not limited to fire alarms fire sprinkler fire extinguishers other emergency equipment medical supplies AEDs chemical sweeps etc.
- Manage the corrective actions for any findings and perform hands on technical tasks related to EHS.
- Help facilitate employee EHS training required at the site and update records and curriculum.
- Perform other EHS related duties as required or needed.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university and 1 years of health & safety experience (or a minimum high school diploma / GED with an additional 4 years of health & safety experience).
Desired Characteristics:
- Experience influencing and engaging all employee levels
- Strong leadership and problem-solving skills.
- Previous training in Emergency Response CPR and AED.
- Previous experience in Environmental Health & Safety Hazardous Waste Management and Chemical Management.
- Experience working with technical regulatory data and specifications.
- Ability to interface effectively with contractors and organizations outside GE (such as Regulatory Agencies and OSHA).
- Comfortable presenting and speaking in a group setting.
