Job Summary
This position is for our new building which will open for programming in June 2026. This position will start prior to that. More details will be provided during the interview process.
Position Title: Unit Support Specialist
Salary: $17.69/Hour
Reports To: Unit Manager
Job Status: Hourly Non-Exempt and Part Time (22 hours per week)
Hours:
Must be able to work Monday-Thursday 2:30-8:00 p.m. during the school year and 11:45 a.m.-5:15 p.m. in the summer. When the new building opens schedule will be Monday-Friday. Schedule changes based on KPS hours on half days no school days breaks and summer. Flexibility to attend occasional events earlier or later in the day and/or weekends.
POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for assisting Unit Manager and managing member behavior while embracing the mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kalamazoo.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist the Unit Manager with daily operations including prepping space and supplies
In the absence of Unit Manager take responsibility for running the day including opening and closing the Unit ensuring staff coverage and ratios and supporting staff as needed.
Support youth and staff by using positive behavior support strategies. Actively observe and assist in program spaces encouraging members and helping them stay engaged.
Lead trauma-informed behavior interventions with youth using de-escalation techniques and reframing conflict.
Document behavioral incidents support plans and communication with parent/guardians.
Assist in coaching staff on group management techniques de-escalation reframing conflict and social emotional learning (SEL) skill building.
Support members and families with barriers to participation or wellbeing by connecting them to external resources or the Engagement & Program Coordinator for targeted help.
Model positive youth development methods and fill in as a Youth Development Professional as needed at any location.

Use MyClubHub (member management system) as required.
Submit purchase requests for supplies.
Assist with planning and implementation of Club special events including fundraisers as requested.
Serve as a liaison of the Boys & Girls Club at outreach events as needed.
Participate in quality assessments tools including National Youth Outcomes Initiative (NYOI) Youth Program Quality Assessments (YPQA) and Hello Insight.
Attend all required staff meetings and/or trainings.
Display behavior in alignment with the Boys & Girls Club Employee Handbook.
Comply with mandated reporting requirements.
Maintain CPR certification with strong knowledge of Boys & Girls Club emergency policies and procedures responding to crisis situations in accordance with the outlined plan.
Perform other related duties as requested.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
An associate degree in Family Consumer Sciences Education Social Work or related field or equivalent experience.
Experience in social emotional learning and trauma-informed/resilience focused care.
Experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar youth development organization.
Experience working with a diverse population.
Skills Knowledge and other Competencies
Ability to effectively interact with youth staff families and community members.
Ability to plan and execute a wide range of programs for youth of all ages that are creative fun and engaging.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs with aptitude to learn new software or database programs.
Strong communication skills both verbal and written.
Demonstrated ability to work as a team.
Ability to speak Spanish is a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
Operate a computer and other office electronics at least 50% of the time.
Must be able to remain in a stationary position at least 25% of the time along with regular standing walking bending and carrying objects.
Ability to occasionally lift and move objects up to 30 pounds at one time.
Frequently communicate with team members youth families and community members and must be able to exchange accurate information.
Other Requirements:
Must be able to pass criminal background check.
Must have reliable transportation.
Must have a valid drivers license and be approved by Club insurance to drive and/or transport youth in Club vehicles to field trip locations and/or special events if required.
