Job Summary

POSITION: Executive Director


TERMS:Permanent Full Time


HOURS:35 hours/week (must be able to work some evening and weekend hours as required).


SALARY:Starting salary from $109000 (commensurate with experience and skills) a comprehensive benefits package pension plan and generous leave entitlements.

WORKING CONDITIONS: This position is in person in the VSAC office with some remote work as required. Hours of work are primarily Monday Friday 9:00 am 5:00 pm with evening and weekend meetings or events approximately. 2-4 times per month.

The Victoria Sexual Assault Centre (VSAC) is seeking an exceptional leader to fill the position of ourExecutive Director (ED). The ideal candidate is passionate dynamic and brings a background of leadership experience in unionized environments. They have a strong anti-racism decolonizing anti-oppressive and intersectional feminist understanding of sexualized violence and demonstrate a commitment to responding to the complex and diverse impacts of sexualized violence across different ED will report directly to the Board of Directors (the Board) provide visionary and strategicleadership to a diverse team of dedicated people while growing VSACs innovative programming and champion VSACs mission vision and values.


ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW


VSAC is a not-for-profit feminist organization committed to ending sexualizedviolence through healing education and prevention. We are dedicated to supporting women Two Spirit trans and gender diverse survivors of sexual assault and childhood sexual abuse through advocacy counselling and empowerment. VSAC provides a range of trauma-informed services including healing prevention and education to individuals groups and our community at large. VSAC is committed to understanding and responding to the ways sexualized violence overlaps withother forms of systemic oppression. Through community collaborations and internal learning the organization is entering into a phase of focus on anti-racism and decolonial practices in our policies services and workplace culture. VSAC has focused on major shifts like this in the previous decade when Trans and gender inclusion was undertaken systematically and intentionally. The last twelve years have seen our staff and services reflect the gender diversity of our clients and VSAC is looking to take an intentional approach with its focus on anti-racism and decolonial practices as a sexual assault centre in our sector.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


The Executive Director is responsible for the program operations financial stability and supporting workplace culture. Our ideal candidate has a strong background in human resources unionized environments and supporting staff and community in unpacking/unlearning systems of oppression through strategic visioning and operational planning.


Leadership

  • Collaboratively develop a vision and strategic plan to guide the organization with a focus on anti-racism decolonial practice and gender inclusion
  • Foster an engaged strengths-focusedand responsive team promoting collaboration and valuing difference
  • Embrace innovation as an approach to supporting change and problem-solving
  • Ensure the Board is kept informed of the ongoing progress of the organization in meeting its mission and goals to enable them to effectively perform their duties and responsibilities as a governance board
  • Foster teamwork with the Board of Directors that enables effective service delivery.
  • Facilitate connection between the staff and the board for the purpose of knowledge sharing and operations.
  • Adapt flexibly to the changing needs of the organization and the dynamic nature of working for a non-profit organization
  • Provide stability to staff through a thorough understanding of Values policy current community needs


Financial Planning and Management

  • Work with the Board and staff to develop the organizations budget (in excess of $2 million)
  • Ensure adequate control and accounting of all funds including developing and maintaining sound financial practices
  • Assess and mitigate financial risk to the organizations security and programs
  • Ensure the development and implementation of a realistic fundraising plan
  • Work with the Board and staff to secure funding for the operation and growth of the organization
  • Leading advocacy with local provincial and federal governments for improved services through responsive funding streams


Operational Planning and Management

  • Develop and maintain programs and services that work toward the mission and within the policyguidelines set by the Board
  • Ensure all required records and documents are produced and maintained and are in compliance with municipal provincial and federal laws and reporting requirements
  • Prepare monthly reports for Board meetings and an annual report for the Annual General Meeting


Human Resources Planning and Management

  • Perform various Human Resource Management duties to ensure compliance with union contractual obligations as well as provincial and federal laws regarding workplaces and employment
  • Promote conflict resolution in alignment with both union structures and decolonizing anti-oppressive practice including discipline as necessary.
  • Encourage and support ongoing staff development and education


Program Planning and Management

  • Provide leadership to staff in developing and maintaining programs and services that are dynamic and responsive to the needs of the communities VSAC serves particularly those disproportionately impacted by sexualized violence
  • Collaborate with these communities in order to develop responsive programs and services


Community Relations

  • Develop and foster community networks to identify strategic directions and support organizational goals
  • Serve as an effective spokesperson for the organization: represent the programs and point of view of the organization to funders politicians donors other organizations the media and the general public
  • Communicate with stakeholders to keep them informed of the organizations work and to identify community needs


WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Indoor office environment and current work from home arrangement possible however a fully remote position is not possible due to the proximity of the role to operational and organizational needs
  • Travel within and outside Greater Victoria area as required

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills to identify areas of growth and facilitate strategic visioning and change which aligns with the anti-oppressive intersectional feminist vision and mission of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to support managers in building a culture of anti-violence on their teams particularly by disrupting white supremacy ableism cis and heterosexism. Experience in coaching managers to build trust work across differences and develop equitable ways of collaborating which value differences.
  • Demonstrated experience working with a board a management team and a diverse staff group to formulate and achieve the strategic to recognize strength in others and to delegate tasks.
  • Experience in developing meaningful relationships and collaborations with community partners to create coordinated responses to gender-based violence across different community contexts including comfort working with criminal justice partners.
  • Demonstrated experience managing an operational budget in excess of $and assessing risks to the organizations financial security and growth.
  • Experience administering Human Resources functions within a unionized environment including; full cycle recruitment performance management strategic HR functions and managing and leading a diverse team of employees working within multiple program areas.
  • Experience preparing a budget in concert with staff the finance committee and the Board and ensuring the organization operates within budget guidelines.
  • Experience in government relations and lobbying government for funding or policy change.
  • Sound knowledge of the process of fundraising grant proposal and reporting and donor relations.
  • Ability to ensure that funds are disbursed in accordance with contract requirements and donor designations.
  • Strong working knowledge of information technology and ability to effectively utilize software to enter data prepare reports and email communications.
  • Fluency in English



QUALIFICATIONS


Education:

Applicants should possess a minimum of five years management experience including interacting with a Board of Directors. We value relevant experience and training commensurate with a Masters Degree in Social Work social sciences business or a related field or a combination of experience and certifications.

  • Established and proven skills at building community partnerships and networks
  • Demonstrated success in helping an organization reach diverse fundraising goals (including annual campaigns grants major gifts planned giving and monthly donations)
  • Experience working in an intersectional feminist environment
  • Working knowledge of local Indigenous protocols
  • Experience with Human Resources management
  • Experience with anti-racism
  • Leadership experience in a unionized environment
  • Experience developing anti-racism and decolonial policies
  • 5 years of senior leadership experience
  • Understanding of gender-based violence and its root causes
  • Experience with disciplinary processes and performance management
