In compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and it regulations the principal responsibilities of the MAINTENANCE MECHANIC include: operating a variety of portable/stationary power tools and equipment to repair materials and/or other items; build demolish and/or installs materials and/or other items; maintaining and storing tools and equipment; maintaining a safe and clean working environment; estimating the cost of work to be performed; performing cross-functional duties as assigned and/or required; performing other duties consistent with the job classification as assigned and/or required.
Duties:
- Prepares the work site for work to be performed involving laying out required materials isolating areas in preparation for the welding of materials removing plumbing within scope of authority etc.
- Selects and uses appropriate wer and other tools/equipment to repair furniture and other items (e.g. cabinets storage fixtures counters benches chairs windows ceilings floors walls fixture and other items).
- Repairs finished wall materials (e.g. ceiling/ceramic tiles drywall etc.) ensuring walls are appropriately prepared for procedure.
- Takes down walls as requested; puts up walls including erecting prefabricated walls etc.
- Maintain responsibility for inspecting the facility/mechanical roomÂ
- Perform preventative maintenance to ensure the continuous operation of equipment/machineryÂ
- Diagnose problems equipment/machineryÂ
- Provide feedback to ensure new construction and/or modification will not impact existing systemsÂ
- Repair equipment/machineryÂ
- Contribute to the efficient operation of the departmentÂ
- Perform cross-functional duties as assigned and/or requiredÂ
Qualifications :
- At minimum completion of high school plus an Apprenticeship program or recognized equivalent required.
- 4 years (approx. 6480 hours) of on-the-job training (8 week) technical training in a classroom
- Or six (6) years related experience
- Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance to UHN standardsÂ
- Exercise initiative and good judgement with ability to multi-taskÂ
- Compliance with confidentiality requirements under UHN Privacy PolicyÂ
- Effective organizational interpersonal and communication skillsÂ
- Knowledge of applicable legislative UHN and/or departmental policiesÂ
- Client service oriented with the ability to effectively work with diversity and appreciate that people with different opinions backgrounds and characteristics bring richness to the challenge or situation at handÂ
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the job including: able to lift 11 kg to 20 kg
