Job Summary
Summary
Reporting to clinical leadership and with daily direction from the unit Resource person the Perioperative Services Assistant will work in conjunction with and under the guidance of the registered nurses anesthesia providers and surgical technologists to support and provide care to the surgical patient. The duties of the Perioperative Services Assistant will include but not be limited to cleaning and turning over rooms between procedures restocking OR and anesthesia supplies assisting with anesthesia access lines and equipment assisting with lifting and positioning of patients assembling and troubleshooting equipment gathering and opening needed supplies for cases acting as a runner for items during cases transporting specimens and/or blood products to and from the lab and performing quality assurance activities.
Education
High school or equivalent (GED).
Certification Registration & Licensure
Certification required: Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification or equivalent course credentialed by American Heart Association within three months of hire.
Medical Technician registration required within three months of hire for Concord Hospital; Registered Pharmacy Technician required upon hire for Concord Hospital - Laconia.
Experience
Ability to read write and understand labels and instructions. Good customer service skills.
Responsibilities
Cleans the surgical suite including equipment to ensure a functional environment on a daily basis.
Ensures that the OR is restocked daily before during and after procedures with appropriate and necessary supplies and equipment.
Supports the clinical practice of the OR team in various clinical settings.
Prioritizes and adjusts work according to the daily schedule and needs of the surgical team.
Prepares for and assists anesthesia providers with the insertion of multiple patient access lines.
Supports the clinical practice of the OR team in the care of the cardiac patient.
Performs daily quality control testing on equipment for OR.
Ensures adherence to Surgical Services Infection Control Safety and Risk Management Policies Procedures and Guidelines.
Performs job specific requirements and other duties as assigned.
Serves as a preceptor for new Perioperative Surgical Assistants.
